He's our leading scorer and leading rebounder my guy. You might want to switch to a new supplier because you got a bad batch.
One man show.
Yeah, the coach dale’s of the world are no longer viable. Like it or not game has changed. See the exits of K, Ole Dadgum Roy, and Izzo shortly. Not saying Penny is cutting right now either but Tubby was more in the Norman Dale category and that was a turd.
So, I been thinking about this whole problem.
We got guys that are worried about not getting their stats and making it to the next level. So, they buck the system.
Well, nothing gonna hurt your stats more that riding the pine on the bench. If you come to Memphis to have Penny get you ready for the league, then you better do what Penny tells you to do or you gonna sit. If it means losing games, then so be it. Penny gotta show who is in charge here. His got his $$ so he don't have any skin in the game except his own pride and standards to uphold. He can walk away and still be happy and comfortable for the rest if his days.
But these kids, they gonna have to realize that this is not Burger King, they don't always get it their way. Life is not easy and it sure ain't fair all the time, so get a grip buttercup and do what the coach tells you to do or hit the door(portal...again). No participation trophies being given away at FedEx Forum....
Penny ain't going anywhere unless he wants to, unless they got pictures of him with a co-ed or something...

This program lacks a leader. Penny is not the guy.
Norman Dale could take this team and beat Rice.

This is a team of quitters.
We saw it in the last days of Tubby ball, and here we are again.
You won't convince me of anything else. Don't even try.
This team plays for the name on the back of the jersey. They have no regard for the name on the front of the jersey. This season has become an NBA tryout for a bunch of players who will never play in the NBA.
I am waiting to see how long it is before Penny grows a pair and states to the public that this team has quit on him. Call em out, make them face the reality of their actions. Introduce them to the real world. He ain't getting them back anymore. That train has left the station 4 games ago. Time to tell it like it is and go on with our lives.

That is the players we are getting. They arent here for the school or to win as a team, they are here to get individual development for the NBA draft.
I have said it since Penny first started coaching here and saw his style... You have to have plays in your pocket, and yes I know our offense has been fine, even better than fine, but discipline is a thing. Especially when you start having chemistry issues and players feel like they are not getting their turn to shine. It certainly would cut down on the turnovers if you are running a play and everyone knows what the other player is doing.
Defense is the biggest issue and as we all know, players have to want to play defense.
Overall, Penny is the coach, if things are going bad, it is his fault. If players arent listening, coach's fault. If players are not giving the effort, coach's fault.
Sweet 16 or bust.
If they are coming to play for Penny to get NBA ready, then that explains the lack of defensive competence for this team - I hardly ever see any defense played at what few NBA games I watch.
That's what the transfer portal has created - you look out for #1, and if where you are isn't getting you there, you move. There's no incentive to stick around & figure out how to adapt or grow your own game.
Penny grabbed some good players from the portal, but after watching a couple of them literally stand STILL last night - no foot movement at all - it's obvious they simply don't care.
OK, I have decided that I really don't care if they figure their problems out.
This late in the season, if they are still looking to play hero ball, then let them play hero ball in the gym at night while the rest of the world progresses.
They don't deserve to go to even the NIT.
I will not be surprised if they don't make any tourney, and think they don't deserve an invite. I will laugh at them when they are sitting at home watching their "dreams" turn to vapor.
