RE: Quinyon Mitchell 2024 NFL draft
I've never seen a Toledo prospect get so much positive press after an all star game. By most estimates he’s ascended to mid first round after his showing against P5 likely draftees in the senior bowl. Hearing Toledo repeatedly mentioned in first round draft convos is great for recruiting, particularly since he stayed at Toledo for his senior season. Hopefully it’s instructive to those pondering a move that you can develop your talents here and get appropriate recognition and opportunities. Exciting time to be a Rockets fan.

RE: Quinyon Mitchell 2024 NFL draft
I've been arguing for a while about the benefits of mid majors pro prospects (NFL, NBA) staying put and developing in college where they are flourishing-not chasing the NIL transfer up or early entry into the draft. The last month we've seen the example of Mitchell becoming 1st rounder by staying at UT and Ryan Rollins seeing his career prospects unravel in part due to making the NBA jump before he was fully ready (Ryan would have jr eligibility now had he stayed). Q understood this and the article by ESPN notes how NFL scouts are seeing the value in guys w loyalty to their original school. Realize, pro leagues have their version of mid majors. The Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans/Okla City and Utah Jazz franchises want loyal players not guys who will jump at free agency whenever they get the chance.

I'll add that I understand why a Dequan Finn type player who isn't a clear pro prospect but can play at a high level in college transfers for a big NIL. That might be important earnings for him and his family. However, for guys with serious pro potential staying put and excelling for another year or two in college often leads to more career earnings.

A lot depends on a player having a trusted advisor (outside family and friends) who has had experience with working with college players to identify their likely pro prospects - how high will they be drafted -so player and family can make best decision on opportunity based on that assessment and not eye the potential dollars that an agent or others may suggest are likely. NFL MLB and NBA leagues all have processes that allow a college player to request likely draft status. Agreed that for most college players they should use up all their college eligibility as only rare few are ready for pros and seen as high draft picks

Here's an interesting page that appears to track every single mock draft in existence. Seems pretty much universal agreement that Mitchell will be a mid-to-late 1st rounder.

Either 2nd or 3rd CB taken in draft. T. Arnold only one rated higher but not by much. Record payday coming for a UT player!!!!!!!!! Quinyon showed a lot of loyalty for UT. Seems like his head is on straight. That's what really impresses me.

Go Rockets!

I saw on one draft site that he runs a 4.55 40, not exactly blazing. Who knows if it's accurate. There was a time when player 40's were out there. Wonder if he does everything at the combine, or waits till UT's pro day, or just skips some events with agent's advice.

I know I posted it in another thread a while back, but my son said that Q is the nicest person he has ever met. That says a lot. He met some great people and made life long friends while up there.

mid 1st round would be impressive, and if he falls into late first round Q will have the benefit of going to strong team. so either way he wins. kid deserves it.

There are reports on-line that he has run in the 4.3s multiple times for NFL scouts, and that he did 21 reps in the bench press. No CB has done more than 20 the past two seasons at the combine.

Good for him. At one point in time, the UT media guide had lists of the fastest 40's on the team.

Excellent article on Quinyon today in The Athletic. Behind a paywall, but well worth it. Wish my Lions could move up and get him, Quinyon (and his grandma) seem like perfect fits for that team’s culture.

I didn't find this to be behind a paywall-until halfway through. Used a work-around. Great story.
