USM NIL collective had record growth in '23 & looks to double it in '24
https://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/stor...204247007/

cliffs: USM's NIL, To The Top Collective, raised about 500k in '23. And they think they can double it to a million in '24.

Honestly, I'm not sure how these figures stack up with the rest of the SBC (or G5 in general). What is everyone else's NIL pools look like?

I'd say that's pretty good for the SBC and maybe G5 if you can get to a million. Pretty sure TXSTs is well belwi what y'all are achieving.

I would think that JMU and ODU would have pretty good NIL funds along with App and probably Marshall also.

That's kinda what I was getting at when asking about others in the SBC. USM's alumni, and the population of MS (a state with relatively low cost of living and subsequent low wages)...how it stacks up against our brethren in larger states/population/higher wage demographics like VA, GA, TX etc.

Not sure JMU's is that well funded because we struggled to do a $100k campaign when Chesney came on board to help with retention of key starters from last year. Won't know till the 990 comes out.

What a weird time to be a college football fan. I'm not saying it's bad, or wrong, or that there's an alternative that's much more viable. But it is weird.

I give 1000s a year to Marshall’s Big Green Fund, which is for scholarship costs. I have donated way too much to facilities. I will never, ever, under any circumstances, give one cent to NIL.

If a player wants paid for their NIL they can hire an agent to go find them people that actually find value in their NIL and negotiate a contract for their services.

I feel NIL is just a way for player to hold fans hostage. “Pay me more if I’m entering the Transfer Portal.” They really need to come up with some boundaries.

I know some heavy hitters that have had enough...

no way they get a dime from my arse...

why would you ... so they can fly if they hit a home run ... fk that....

I'd rather focus on dollars to coaching/facilities attracting quality youth ... they can bolt after that if they're good enough...

We are the same. I’ve given to every arm of USM I know of. But I will not write a check for this.

good for you ... at our level, donating to NIL is akin to 85% cocaine ... it's amazing until you run out with nothing to show for the contribution...

A lot of players make more from NIL than our entire collective bolsters. It’s just not worth the investment compared to facilities and coaches.

I'll just say that ODU's collective is doing really well with the big donors. However, I'm not sure why USM is promoting how well theirs is doing. The best part (from the collective's perspective) about NIL is you don't have to make it publicly known what you have in your war chest or how much you are paying players. The more transparency we offer, the easier it gets for your competitors to target players who might be underpaid.

I highly doubt Marshall raises anything close to what USM and other schools have done. And I am totally fine with it. I haven't donated to our NIL fund and won't. But like Banker, have supported the BG since 89 and will continue to do so. Also buy season tix for multiple sports
