Another thing about play-offs vs bowls is home games. Maybe not at NIU, but teams can pull in another $1.5-$2.0 million for a home play off game. 20k tickets at $50 is 1 million before concessions, parking and merchandise. That's all before TV money. And zero travel expense for 1 team.

NIU gets $1m in CFP funds as a G5. Hopefully this will go up a bit as you point out. NIU can not replace $1m as Payoff games will be limited going forward as Top conferences will limit non P5 to most likely 1 per year.

You would see most of our remaining fan base leave. I for sure would not be getting season tickets anymore and maybe just going on homecoming. I’m sure that would be for a lot of our fan base.

Do tell me... what fan base? Its non existent. Aside from ego, i still havent heard a reason why staying in fbs or G5 is compelling.

From everything I've read, if NIU or even a team from the MAC makes it to the playoff, the amount of money the conference would get (even if NIU wasn't there) would be more than a team in FCS would ever see in multiple seasons and not even close.

Agreed. And if you separate from CFP to create the G5 Championship, you have no funding!!!!!!!! Not many are grasping the fact that G5 playoff will not generate any significant revenue, so you are gong to need to drastically cut scholarships and programs to go this direction.

But again, I don't think anyone is saying the G5s have to actively break away but that the P4s will do that for them. There's a lot to believe that they want to be on their own, away from the NCAA and without the hassle and nuisance that is the G5s.

If/when that happens, then the G5s create their own playoff system. Otherwise it would be akin to cutting off one's nose to spite it's face.

The argument here is that it makes no sense to proactively drop down a division just because of what the P4s are doing. Wait it out, a conference like the MAC is pretty dame stable and right now, that might actually play into its hand. And when the P4 does whatever its going to do...with literally zero regard for what the G5s want or protest to, then create your own system but not until you are put into that position because if you move prematurely, you might not get a shot to get back in and you hurt yourself in the short-term and potentially long-term.

There is a bigger NIU fan base out there than I think we all give credit for. They may not show up for games in droves, but they follow the program by watching the games on the many avenues available. Also, I am OK with admitting that one reason I do not want to drop to FCS is ego.... I want to be in the top tier FBS & dream of big years like the Orange Bowl season & taking out the occasional P5 team in our OCC.

We definitely wait it out as the environment might even get better for us. The lower tier P5 schools may get squeezed out and be competing at the G5 level sooner than we know. It is going to come down to the absolute blue bloods and everyone else. Alabama, Georgia ect are going to get tired of sharing the profits with Vanderbilt, Missouri and other lower tier SEC schools.

Forget Missouri...Indiana, Wake Forest, Arkansas, Cal and Stanford will still be in the P4 (among others)!!!!!

Those programs are literal dogsh!t.
