When talking about all-time Huskie Bball greats, Jim Smith, aka Smitty, has to be included. Can’t believe I forgot Smitty because I knew him and watched him play a lot. Duh.

Smitty averaged 20.1 ppg and 14.4 rpg during his two years at NIU. In 48 games as a Huskie, he had 42 double-doubles. Opposing players drove the lane against Smitty at their own peril. He was one mean dude. Last player cut by the Lakers in 1969 and that’s when they were at the top of the NBA. Smitty was known to get in a few bar fights in DeKalb, lol.
