RE: Florida State Getting Manhandled in the Orange Bowl
Not surprising, given that 15 of their 22 starters opted-out.
This is nowhere near the same FSU team.

They’re starting a 3rd string true freshman at QB.

RE: Florida State Getting Manhandled in the Orange Bowl
Should players who voluntarily sit out of games have to give back 1/13 or 1/14th of their NIL money?

Obviously the coach needs to get a new QB.

That, IMO, should be written into any agreement they sign for the money but I'm sure it's not there (yet).

That's brilliant actually. NIL needs to evolve. The investors need to make an ROI and there needs to be a guarantee for what they are paying for.

What if the players just say they’re out for the bowl game because of injury? Do they not get NIL deal if they get injured?

They do and they should. But...pros can't just make up injuries and anyone getting NIL money should be held to similar standards. But this will be on a case by case basis until things become common practice. But, at some point, I see these "investors" pushing the limits on this where we see multi-year deals and trades.
That will be a shock to the system and, imo, the only shock that will wake up these athletes when one of them gets traded to Louisiana-Monroe.

The P5 wanted this. They asked for it. Glad I didn't waste my time watching it. Most of the games won't be worth watching since the team playing in the bowl won't resemble the team that played the rest of the year.

FSU obviously didn't belong there.
The Patriots probably wouldn't have either if Brady and half of the remainder of the team sat out the Superbowl.

Excuses, excuses. I enjoyed seeing them get rolled. I still remember hearing the static from FSU fans when NIU lost by 21, at least it was respectable until the 4th quarter.
Worst loss in FSU history, no depth on the bench, I guess.

Exactly. I think their whole front 7 was gone.
For everyone who thinks, incorrectly, that the portal is smashing the non-p5 schools, the real victims of the portal are the p5 guys. Look at FSU. Not everyone who opted out went pro.
Ole Miss basically has a new defense and Florida’s RB coming in…all p5 transfers. They are eating each other and losing the scraps to smaller schools. It’s a beautiful thing. No way the portal lasts forever after this result.
Here is how the portal is working, G5 schools are raiding the FCS and taking trickle down from the P5. The non-p5 conference schools are not being raided, we had 2 guys go P5 and one of them was a below average center (still need someone to explain that to me.)

If we had better players we would have lost more. Who did we have this year that was a standout? Maybe AB based on stats. Rudolph didn't really start having an impact until late in the year. The defense was solid but I don't see any guys that are being touted for the draft. Still think this will be worse for G5 than the P5.

Good luck with that. Just get ready for another lawsuit, which is how we even got to this point. Lawsuits and threats of them.
And remember, most of these agreements are for likeness not signing to play. You know, because that's against the rules, or was. Albeit now schools, especially P5 with money, need to do more where outside NIL fails.
But it does beg to ask the question about the California pay to play. But then again, it will be season is over, that's what they commit to, blah blah.
Decade too late for us vs. FSU. Although I think they had about 12 backups eventually drafted in addition to the 8 or whatever that year.

Wouldn't it be crazy if NIL actually helped keep players in these bowl games? If playing in bowl games became a sizable bonus built into their NIL deal.

There should be a bowl distribution for all players. Not just NIL guys.
