Were in the 1960s when I was an undergrad.

We had to take a humanities course as part of our distribution requirement. You memorized all the prof's favorite buzz words, regurgitated them on the tests, amd promptly forgot them as soon as the test was over,

My 1st semester freshman year, I was in Dr. Garfield's History of the Contemporary World class and not doing all that well going into the final. Not knowing what or how to study for the final, I asked an upper classman history major what to study for the final. He asked if I went to class and took decent notes. I said yes. He told me to just memorize my notes, and regardless of the final exam question, regurgitate them on the exam. The grader wrote a note on my exam asking why I waited so long to demonstrate the fact that I understood the material. I ended up with a 1- (A-) in the class.

Glad I majored in Chemical Engineering!

So poli sci?? lol

My degree (B.A.) is in Behavioral Science (BS). Get it?

BehavSci was an interdisciplinary degree consisting of courses in Anthro, Psych, and Soc. For me it was heavily weighted to Anthro. Others could have/would have weighted it differently.

I only took one three hour course in PolySci, which did not apply to my major, and of which I remember nothing. I believe the esteemed Dr, Cuthbertson taught the course.

Rice was very politically apathetic in my time. I remember only one demonstration, in which people walked quietly around the Quad carrying candles. This at a time when War and Racial protests were in the news nightly (1963-68). So if the profs were agitating politically either in or out of their classes, I didn't notice. I didn't care. Just wanted to get to Kay's.

It is hard not to think of the Donald Sutherland character in Animal House, pathetically reminding his inattentive students: "I'm not joking -- this is my job!"
