My thoughts on Liberty
They play at the FBS level, they won all of their games, they earned a shot at the playoffs. I know people will point to their miserable SoS, is it totally their fault? They can't control what their opponents do and what if they were able to schedule a few bad to mediocre P5 teams, would the committee be impressed with wins over UVA, VT, Wake, Duke, etc.? You think Ohio State, Michigan, FSU, Georgia, Alabama were going to schedule them even as a one off home game? So again, I say they should be in.

In case you disagree (which I expect), I'll hope we can agree on that Liberty at least deserved the NY6 bowl. SMU played a tougher schedule, but by doing so they proved they could not actually beat a P5 team in 2 tries, at best they proved they were a worthy opponent that could make it a good game. 13-0 Liberty deserved and earned this shot.

Let's say they were 12-1 instead. Obviously this would change things. They would not have the best resume of the 1 loss teams and rightfully be left out of the 4 team playoffs. Their wins and losses would be closely scrutinized in comparison with the other G5 candidates, despite the better record, their NY6 bid would not be automatic.

I do agree with you that Liberty deserves the NY6 bid. Had Tulane won the AAC and been 12-1, Tulane should have (and almost certainly would have) had it. But 2 losses vs. ZERO is one too many to make a SoS argument, and Liberty rightly got the bid over SMU.
