This is the exact scenario I was afraid of and I am against playoff expansion. 4 is plenty and can work with hard playoff rules.

A 12-1 ACC runner-up might get in as long as it's an "approved" team like Clemson, Miami, or (maybe) Virginia Tech. They may even feel bad enough about this year to let FSU in as a runner-up. (It shouldn't come down to "which teams we like").
