GCU got out of Edinburg with a win 79-69. UTRGV always gives us fits so it is nice to get this win under our belt.

GCU led the whole way but it was close. All three of GCU's big men fouled out and there was a grand total of 54 fouls called in the game. The game felt like it took 2 and a half days instead of 2 and a half hours.

If you go to the men's game in Arlington, let us know what you think of this year's team. We are in a bit of transition with several relatively new players learning the tight defensive philosophy of Coach Tanner. Players are in and out of the game at a rapid substitution rate.

It looks like ACU is top-heavy. Three guys scored roughly three-quarters of the Wildcats points. I don't know if there's a confidence issue with the others or if there's a lack of shooting skill, but UTA clamped down on Dibba and it paid off. The other two seemed to shoot better, but Dibba took more shots.

Simmons hit some easy good threes, but he didn't shoot many. Seemed surprising to me, as they needed some down the stretch.

You could ruin a night or two yet for some people.

I disagree. I thought your defense was decent, but the Mavs were hitting the shots, contested shots in some cases and open shots after some extras passes in other cases.

The other issue seemed to be an over aggression that led to some dumb foul calls. If I remember right the scoreboard said ACU had only a handful of extra fouls, but they were careless and led to free throws that shouldn't have happened. Tough to give freebies when attempting a comeback.

Tough loss for Seattle U against Utah Valley. Despite 23 points from Cam Tyson with seven made 3's, Schumacher shot really well too. Unfortunately they kept letting UVU go on runs. Hoping they find more consistency by the rest of conference play, getting Christofilis back is important too. He appears to be a bigger piece to this team than I anticipated he would be, and a big difference maker in how this team plays.

Good take, I meant to look at the stats today to see the FTs, fouls, TOs and PoTs. My comments were based off of what I watched. It has been comparable to what I have been seeing in other games this season. We have not been aggressive enough in getting in the lanes and getting turnovers and disruptions that lead to lower shot percentages. UTA's good shot percentages tells me that ACU wasn't contesting them well enough, combined with our low scoring because we weren't getting enough TOs and our other bread and butter PoTs. I think you are correct in the FTs and you had better bench points, which both helped lead to the point differential. Our shooting percentage was decent, so the lower points were obviously due to other factors. You guys definitely game planned better than us. Tanner has said multiple times that he isn't big on game planning, just playing our game and things will take care of themselves. Therein lies the problem, poor planning + poor execution.

Yeah, looking at the game stats, I cringe when I look at our TOs and our fouls against our lack of rebounds, 2nd chance and bench points. That put UTA at the FT line way too many times, as well as gave you way too many extra shots that you took advantage of.

Hey! At one point we were ahead 25-24.

Thanks for letting us pretend it was close.

COGS You are correct. COGS
Also I do think it was close. Plus you actually beat us last year at GCU and as the announcers mentioned UTRGV had won 4 out of the last 7 games between us.
Already have Feb 29th circled on my calendar for when UTRGV heads up to Phoenix. Matt Figger seems to be a good coach so I predict the Vaqueros will only get better as the season progresses.

Texans defeats UTRGV on a last second 3 by Jakorie Smith 77-75.

After Jakorie made the 3 there was a major celebration on the court and in the student section. Jakorie ran into the entryway to the Texan locker room and hugged Coach Gillespie, who was in attendance at the game.

In an ACU DeJa'Vu game, the men piss away their game and lose 74-79 to the Lumberjacks in OT. Two OT loses in one day really takes it out of you. At this point, the men don't even deserve to play in the WAC.

It was a total brain freeze loss for the men. They were up by three with little time left. All they had to do was foul. The worst case would then be getting the ball ahead by one with time running out. Instead, they let SFA go the length and pass for an open three which tied the game and put it in overtime.

Congrats to SFA, they played a very tough defense with far more contact than we are used to. The Lumberjacks were a better team tonight.

Yep. This team has completely forgotten what defense even is, let alone game management. These are good kids, it shouldn't be this bad right now.

Based on the early returns, ACU may have played two of the top third WAC teams and did okay to well. It's a long season.

AS for UTA, I don't know what is worse: losing a close game to the favorites at their place or getting blown out by the favorites on our home floor.

It seems a little like we were homered when our guys drew twice as many fouls. after several players had fouled out, the game seem to slowly slip away. as for the girls, their season looks to just be a lousy one. hopefully they will improve as the season goes on and just not get stomped every game. the guys have 3 potential beatdowns this month so I hope they can regroup after the holidays.

RGV played a good game the whole way. They do not seem to have any standouts, but everyone of them hustles like their pants are on fire and they are decent at the 3's. I think RGV is underrated in Ken Pom. SUU looks BY FAR the worst team in the league right now. Though none of the Utah Teams look very good this year. I would put GCU SFA and Cal Bap as the top 3 though 1-8 look pretty close at the moment.

Not quite good enough.

I'm guessing the Stephenville crowd liked that last shot.

That was clutch. Smith (and Gaddy) are the best players on the team by far but they are not great at the 3's. Glad he made it! If we still had Hicks and Bogues we would be a lot better this year. I miss those guys.
