We don't know what Duke offered. If it was just salary I expect Duke could have matched. The problem is all the other things -- staff salaries, NIL, facilities, fan support (although the fan support at TAMU is so cult-like that you could consider that a negative).

I'd rather be the biggest fish in Upstate NY with less resources and fans that care than the smallest fish in the triangle with more resources and fans that do NOT care. Duke football is what it is and what they've deliberately cultivated from the program the last 40 years of total neglect. It's the Vandy of the ACC. If they ever get a pulse they'll be immediately raided. Their functional consistent ceiling is right around 6-6 or 7-5 with an early schedule full of extra fattening cupcakes like NC A&T or Lafayette or UCONN.
