Coach Firings
Who is the dream candidate for UTEP fans to replace Dimel? Houston’s Holgorsen and Indiana’s Allen also getting canned. I’m sure there will be more to come.

RE: Coach Firings
I don't think UTEP wants to replace Dana with another Dana that struggled to get five wins for most of his tenure at Houston.

RE: Coach Firings
My preference, which means zero, would be Jason Eck, HC at Idaho, Scotty Walden, HC at Austin Peay, or UNLV OC Brennon Marion.

Local sports writers in EP say that Mack Leftwich, OC at Texas St and former UTEP QB is interested as is Tony White, DC at Nebraska.

There will be lots of speculation up to the time of hiring the new guy. I'm just happy our AD actually made the move. Hopefully he gets it right this time.

I think Walden is gonna be pretty good when he gets a shot at fbs.

Todd Graham would be the best hire. They did not hire him last time and definitely will not this time.

I'd say Eck has to be the leading candidate. The AD is not a Texas guy and used to be at Idaho. He's going to like that hire a lot.

Oh sure. The guy had success at Tulsa years ago, was mediocre everywhere else, got fired from his last 2 jobs and was abusive to his players. Yeah, we want that guy.

I said it was the best hire. I did not say anyone would like it. Those are opposite things.

That would be a good hire imo. He took over a losing Idaho program and won right away. Only 2 years in the job but doing very well. From Wisconsin originally and played ball for the Badgers so how bad could he be, right?

It's good on paper. It will not work most likely. You need to be a very good recruiter to win at UTEP. You need to have Texas high school coaching connections. That is why Graham is the right guy. He is a good recruiter and has experience recruiting Texas, California and Arizona. They are going to hire someone like Dimel. It will seem like it will work and then it won't.

Wouldn't mind that at all. Getting up there in years to start a new job but coach Kill proved it can be done. Two good friends at rival schools. Could be interesting.

Another good choice. He played and then coached at Sul Ross State in Alpine, Tx, just 3 hours from El Paso. That's pretty close as far as west Texas is concerned.
