Exclamation The Big Game: Cal versus Stanford
Stanford versus Cal is one of the oldest annual rivalries in college football. The matchup is known as The Big Game. This past weekend marked its 126th edition. Stanford leads the series 65–50–11 for a .560 win percentage, but Cal is currently enjoying a three-year win streak.

A number of traditions surround the game on both campuses. The winner takes home the Stanford Axe (long story!). The first Big Game was held in 1892 and 10,000 tickets were sold by Stanford manager Herbert Hoover (yes, the eventual US president).

RE: The Big Game: Cal versus Stanford
Those of us of a certain age will never forget The Big Game of 1982.

I suspect stuff like that happened quite a few times in the days before TV, when refs were just local guys hired the week of the game, and fans gathered on the sidelines towards the end of the 4th Quarter.

But 1982 was long after that era had passed, and yet it happened anyway.
