OT- Need advice on NFL draft for a friend of mine
My friend's son is a offensive lineman for a P5 school. He was offered by NIU early on, but blew up and went to a P5 school and is a red shirt junior starting on the offensive line. He is thinking of entering the NFL draft and is a smart kid and I believe will have his degree this Spring.
According to most scouting reports at this point in time , he is a projected backup NFL lineman and will be drafted between 4th and 6th round. He is considered a "sleeper" draft pick as he has experience at all positions on the offensive line in his college career.
Mel Kiper has him going 4th-6th round.
If you were him, would you come out for the draft? There is risk in entering the draft and also risk in coming back for another year.
Any of you know scouts or someone who has been in the situation before? Can linemen improve their draft position significantly by coming back another year?

I had a buddy's cousin who was supposed to be a middle rounder following his junior year. He decided to stay in college for his senior year. That year he posted even better numbers, but got hurt towards the end of the season. He didn't get to play in the bowl or combine and ended up going UDFA, only to never make a squad. He was also the highest recruited receiver out of the state of Illinois.
Anyway, I'd say for that situation, he should have came out. But he was a loyal dude. Take the money while you can and strike while the iron is hot.

What does he want to do? If he has something he wants to accomplish in school , stay. If he wants to play in the NFL and feels ready go for it.

If he’s peaked he should leave, if not he should stay. Offensive lineman have better stock when they play out their 4 years. There’s a strong risk of not get drafted at all. 4th to 6th round projection is not strong .Skill position players are a higher commodity.
