South Alabama @ Texas State - 11/25 - 6PM CT - NFL Network
I don’t know what to expect in this game but nothing would surprise me. I was just thinking back at our past games in this series. They’ve been crazy, especially games in San Marcos. I’ve posted something about those games below. If anyone wants to watch a fun game, this is probably it. Jag/Bobcat fans feel free to add details you might remember.

2013 - 4th and 25 Game:
Texas State was down 31-30 late in the 4th quarter and the Jags D forced a 4th and 25. USA went to the dreaded prevent D which allowed Texas State to convert a 51-yard pass to make it to the USA 23-yard line with 4 seconds left for a game winning FG. Texas State wins 33-31.

2014 - Winner Goes to Bowl Game:
USA was 5-4 with South Carolina and Navy left. Texas State was 5-4. Due to limited tie-ins both teams knew this game probably decided the last bowl participant for the SBC. USA took a lead 24-17 with 12 minutes left in the game. USA’s D then forced a 3 and out but Texas State intercepted the ball on the next USA possession to have great field position at the USA 25-yard line. The Jags force a FG and with 4 minutes left USA was up 24-20. After a Jag 3-and-out Texas State got the ball back at their 45-yard line and 2.5 minutes to try and win the game. A 21-yard toss on a 4th and 7 had Jag fans nervous with memories of 2013. Then on 3rd and 18 Texas State got bailed out on a pass interference. Texas State drove down to the USA 4-yard line with 4 seconds left and time for one play. USA stopped Texas State and while both were bowl eligible, USA went to the inaugural Camellia Bowl while 7-5 Texas State stayed home. South Alabama wins 24-20.

2015 - Special Teams Fail:
It was a rainy and sloppy game in the first half. The Jags failed a fake punt late in the second quarter to set Texas State up at midfield. They marched it down for a TD to go up 12-3 with just over a minute left before halftime. The Jags were able to use that time to get into FG position, but our 53-yard attempt was short in the rain and Texas State ran it back for a kick-six. The Bobcats enjoyed a 19-3 lead at intermission. The Jags never recovered. Texas State wins 36-18.

2016 - no game
2017 - no game
2018 - no game

2019 - Wide Left
In 2013 Texas State beat the Jags on a last minute field goal in San Marcos. The 2019 version of the game offered the Jags possible redemption. Texas State took a 30-28 lead on a FG with about 6 minutes left. The Jags then drove to get in position to attempt a 28-yard FG to take the lead with a minute left. The kick was wide left. Texas State wins 30-28.

2020 - Home Team Holds Serve:
This game found the teams tied heading into the 4th quarter, and the Jags outscored the Bobcats 13-3. South Alabama wins 30-20.

2021 - 4OT Thriller:
In a game where South Alabama’s young coach was trying to put the game away, the Jags were up 24-10 in the 4th quarter and he called for a flea flicker in our own side of the field. That flea flicker was fumbled and recovered by Texas State to set up a short field and it completely flipped momentum. Texas State scored twice (the second a 4th and goal at the 1) to force overtime. In OT USA got a touchdown and Texas State answered. In 2OT Texas State failed to convert and USA couldn’t capitalize on a FG to win. Neither team converted the 2-point play in 3OT. In 4OT Texas State converts their 2-point play and the Jags fail. Texas State wins 33-31.

2022 - Farewell Jake Spavital:
South Alabama held serve again to hand the Bobcats their 7th loss of the season. The Bobcats were likely better than their record. They lost by 3 to Troy, lost by 6 to USM, and lost by 1 to ULM. South Alabama wins 38-21.

I have no clue what’s in store this year. But so far only the home team has won in this series.

I’m just glad this game doesn’t decide our bowl eligibility. I want to win, but the ultimate pressure is off and I can just enjoy the ball game. 04-cheers

Everyone talks about how good the NFL Network broadcasts are but I hate the camera angle we’re getting. We’ve had some bad camera action too as the active players are barely in the frame.

Texas State didn’t score on their first offensive series. South fumbles on their first offensive possession and Texas State scooped and scored. Then South went 3 and out. We are down our top 2 RBs today so I’m not sure what to expect.

Typical USA/TxSt game so far. Good start by our defense followed by a fumble and scoop and score by TxSt.

This is not a typical game. Texas State looks like a good team and they’re whipping the Jags right now. Texas State is up 21-0 and we haven’t even played 12 minutes.

I’m about to turn this game off. We can’t even field that squibby kickoff. Texas State ball again. Unreal.

South managed to get on the board on a 39-yard touchdown pass that the NFLN graphic called a scoop and score and then called it a 39-yard run. Normally they put on a good production but this one isn’t it. They have some people out for Thanksgiving.
