Our frontcourt is wanting for talent, and we have no inside game. Our best rebounder is Ellerbe, a freaking guard. We truly were lost when we had to inbound the basketball late in the game with a lead. Lucky is right.

That said, I LOVE watching this team. I was enamored with Noah, but I truly believe that Tyson Acuff has matured into a superior player. I think Osojnik will shoot the three ball at the same percentage as Bates as he does not force shots. Lovejoy had a lot of rust on him, but he is so strong. Central Arkansas was long, yet they only got 10 offensive rebounds versus our eight. This team scraps for loose balls. I'm delighted with their performance so far.

The announcers stated we have not had back to back OOC road victories since 2007.

I’m glad we got the win but we surely are lacking fundamentals.
A win is a win, but we definitely should beat C Arkansas! We're 3-2 with 3 wins against below average D1 teams, Detroit is 0-6, C Arkansas 1-4, and GA Southern 0-6,1 win combined all 3 teams.......N Dakota will tell us way more about this team early on.........Glad to be 3-2!

Correction 4-2.

Let's remove Blue from last year's schedule, not that they were very good, but they are Power 6. Then let us compare:

We played powerhouses like Wayne St, Bradley, Purdue Fort Wayne, Oakland, Winthrop and UC San Diego last year and had a 1-5 record while this year our similarly unimpressive schedule this year has yielded a 4-2 record instead. We are definitely better year-over-year.

EMU will not contend for the MAC Championship this year, we have no inside game and little frontcourt talent. That acknowledged, we are NOT going to repeat the abject embarrassment of the 8-23 record that last season's team did. This team is sooo much easier to watch and root for!

Caught bits and pieces of the game, but from what I saw I was happy. Getting Lovejoy back is huge, because he’s really the only other guy on the team after Acuff that can create his own shot. He looked like he got more comfortable in the 2nd half and was routinely beating his man off the dribble. Once the rust is off, he and Acuff will compliment each other very well.

I know these aren’t the most daunting of opponents, but road wins are road wins. Especially when the team we are playing is shooting the lights out. Both Central Arkansas and U of D shot well from three, and we still beat them. The improvement is obvious, and I think these guys play well together. Are they a MAC title contender? Probably not. But they’re worth watching, and Tyson Acuff might be the best scorer we’ve had in my time following the team. He has such good touch around the basket and in the mid range. Special player.

Jerry, I completely agree with you! We're 4-2 versus 1-5! Enormous difference! Not nearly as much one on one basketball either! Baby steps is all we need to continue doing.......8 wins and hopefully 16 or more wins is a phenomenal improvement! This team is a joy to watch versus last season........I never thought EMU football would've a worse season then EMU basketball!

Tyson Acuff continued his hot scoring streak netting 23 points - making it four games in a row of scoring > 20 points. If he keeps this up we will have to worry about Acuff declaring for NBA draft after this season.

I am happy to agree with everyone this team is much better to watch. I still get frustrated with two things: 1) Rebounding- they rarely body up opponents and 2) inbounding the basketball

This team needs Billingsley to be healthy and Cyril to play like a 7 footer to win 7-9 MAC games

Some of our opponents appear to suffer from poor shooting nights. Is this caused by themselves or it due to our defense?

Absolutely. The best thing about this team is that they are easier to watch. Like I said before, they are playing college-style basketball and not pretend-NBA basketball.

Reminder, this is year 1 of a 2-year stretch with essentially the same team.

Great posts from everyone!

Just placed a bet for the North Dakota game today. EMU is a 4 point underdog.

Very good post Luckeyone (per usual as you are always right. lol)

While I agree about rebounding still not being ideal, it is a way better than any point in Coach Heath’s first two years at EMU. I am not sure if this was growth of our returning frontcourt players, the incoming of new players, or Coach Heath shifting his coaching strategy. I suspect a combination of all three. Regardless, I recognize there are still moments where there are lapses in rebounding- the question is is it ability of the athletes or still some lack in coaching the fundamentals… Anyway, I am happy with this team and hope they will continue to improve.

As far as inbounding, was that a problem this year before the end of yesterday’s game? I don’t recall? But agree, yesterday’s situation inbounding at the end of the game almost looked like a comedy skit.

Looks like we up 9 at the under 12 tv timeout in the 2nd half (after being down as many as 9 in the first half). Another monster game for Acuff.

Up 63-61 with 3 minutes left! Acuff has 26, Osojnik has 12! This would be a very nice win! 10 players have seen some action. Let's finish strong!

Lost 72-70! FT hurt us in the end! We played very competitive against a decent North Dakota team.

Was checking the game cast at the end- assuming that is what you guys were doing?

Looks like a loss by 2 points.

Tough loss. Couldn’t make free throws down the stretch.

I don’t think Lovejoy got many minutes, which isn’t surprising since we played yesterday.

Only one game next week, so we should get him full strength when the schedule picks up again.
