Traveling to ACC Conference Championship….
Need some help from the folks in Carolina….
Heading to Charlotte for the ACC Championship. Looking for some real Charlotte kind of places to eat and drink. Would prefer non-chain type restaurants.
The kind of places you only know about if you’re from down yonder.
Thanks

RE: Traveling to ACC Conference Championship….
I've been gone from Charlotte for a couple of years, but lived there quite a while before that. Hopefully these recommendations are still up-to-date, and all local (except where noted). TBH, if you're looking for 5-star dining, I'm probably not your man anyway, but at the risk of being ridiculed for eating at some of these places, here goes...
So local it goes by the address: "300 East" (300 East Blvd) for upscale dining atmosphere in a converted house (you'll need a reservation!)
A place I was meaning to try but haven't yet is "Noble Smoke" on Freedom Dr - not far from the stadium. I hear the BBQ and ribs are very good!
For a bar/restaurant where locals hang out that's near the stadium - but not right next to it - try "Alexander Michael's". Another place that's similar (but now owned by a chain, I think) is "Tyber Creek Pub" (1933 South Blvd).
Now, if you're running low on funds (like I always seem to be), there's a local chain you may want to try: "Showmars" (specialty is Greek food, reasonable prices, locations all over Charlotte but still pretty local).
If you're looking for something else, PM me, I might know of a place.

I would suggest staying around South End/Uptown/NoDa areas. South End in particular has the largest concentration of bars/restaurants in a compact area

Agreed. But also Dilworth (e.g. East Blvd) and Plaza-Midwood (e.g. Central Ave)

Everyone traveling from KY or Yankeeland to Charlotte needs to stop for real Lexington BBQ - BBQ Center in Lexington, Clarks in Kernersville, etc., etc.

I loved going to Pinky's. It is just west of downtown. Not too far from the stadium by car. Highly recommend
Parking on site is very limited but you can find some closeby.

I had the Asian Pork Burger...it was excellent. The vibe there was good too. A good casual spot for 20 to 60 somethings
