He looks like a great coach. But SU needs someone with some roots in the Northeast and Mr Chadwell has none of that. The name that I keep seeing most is Bob Chesney, the coach at Holy Cross. Kent Severud, the AD at SU said that he has been getting a lot of calls about the HC job, which is encouraging.

SU is a pretty good gig IMO especially if you are someone from the NE area. I’d hope SU can land someone better than the Holy Cross guy, I’d be more excited for Al Golden.

Al Golden is terrible and will not be in the running at SU. Chesney would be a much better option. Keep in mind that former Ohio State HC, Jim Tressel was an fcs head coach when he was hired at OSU. Lots of head coaches have had their starts at the fcs level. I would rather have a guy who has proven himself at the fcs level than a guy who has never been a HC at all.

Dan Mullen is definitely in Top 3.

Hmmm .... Dan Mullen ... that would be something. You'd have an influx of southern talent, with his stops in Mississippi and Florida.

I’ve heard Dan Mullen has a crazy wife or am I thinking of Gus Malzahn?

Gus Malzahn does.

But I don't think anybody comes close to former Wichita State's basketball head coach Gregg Marshall ... his wife was WHACKED --- gettin' liquored up for ball games and heckling opposing players, fans, coaches, refs, and media types. She was quite the scene.

That was the one and only season that Eric Dungey didnt have a season ending injury. That kid was probably the best QB Syracuse has had the last 25 years. He got hurt during the ND game with a pulled muscle but he was back the next week. SU had good to great recievers and a very good and deep defense,

He’s doing a pretty good job as the ND DC. He was meh at Miami (but so was everybody else), but did a good at Temple. Yeah I think SU should aim higher, but if you had to settle I think he would be ok.

I'm not saying the feller isn't a good coach, but I will say he's had this at QB:

Two-time Walter Payton Award Finalist (2022, 2023)
2023 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year
Two-time All-Patriot League First Team (2022, 2023)
Team MVP (2022)
New England Football Writers’ Association Agganis/Zimman Award (2022)
All-New England (2022)
All-Patriot League Second Team (2021)
Phil Steele’s All-Patriot League Second Team (2021, 2022)
Six-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week (9/6/21, 9/20/21, 11/15/21, 10/31/22, 9/18/23, 10/23/23)
FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week (10/23/23)
Stats Perform National Offensive Player of the Week (9/12/22)
Jerry Rice Award Finalist (2020)
Patriot League Rookie of the Year (2020)
Patriot League Rookie of the Week (3/29/21)
New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmet Award (2021)
Gold Helmet Award (9/4/22, 9/11/22, 10/22/23)
Hilton Garden Inn Crusader of the Week (9/5/22)

with all that talent he has had, leads me to believe that Chesney is a good recruiter and a good evaluator of talent, which is a quality that is sorely needed at SU.

I guess I was wrong about Al Golden:

The website, FootballScoop.com, said the school has looked at former Mississippi State/Florida head coach Dan Mullen, Holy Cross coach Bob Chesney, Toledo coach Jason Candle, Marshall coach Charles Huff and Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden.

If SU hires either of the last 2 candidates, Al Golden and Charles Huff at Marshall , the fanbase will be disappointed and you will see attendance go down even further. But I do love Jason Candle, Dan Mullen and Bob Chesney. Also, I didnt know that Dan Mullen is from the northeast.
His name along with Bob Chesney has been coming up most. According to a local news reporter, he interviewed for the job on Thursday and joined the team for practice. Vegas odds give Mullen the best chance.Another name that I was surprised to see come up Chadwell. Nothing about him interviewing. Just that he was mentioned

Dan Mullen says he will not be SU's next head coach:

Dan Mullen

I dont know if this is like removing your name from consideration. Thats what happens
when coaches get wind that someone else has been hired for the job they interviewed for. Usually, the school announces their new hire soon after.

Or, he just isnt interested in the job for whatever reason.
We should know by tomorrow if SU went in a different direction. lots of prestgious coaching jobs are opening up fast.

One thing that SU has going for it is the leaders have demonstarted that they will be patient with their coach. Babers had 2 winning seasons in 8 years.

Could be a condition of his buyout? I'm thinking he's making really good money and without all the stress, too...

Babers has been listed as possible OC at Pitt. The list is long, but his relationship to Narduzzi makes it possible.

As bad as his Syracuse offenses were at times, they were still better than 2023 Pitt O.
