Lots of balance on this team- at least in this game.
We're shooting 68% from the field, and 54% from 3's......
Leading 68-59.......

You do this a lot, Glory. Jinx leads 03-lmfao

UDM made a late run cutting it to 2 near the end of the game. Jihad and TyCuff with a big bucket each to build it back up to 6. And final score 76-72.

Nice win EMU!!
RamyEMU, We won baby! We might not shoot 64% for an entire game again this season! Detroit is 0-5, so we absolutely should've won this game!

We have a scrappy team. These guys will be competitive in MAC play, which is all you can ask.

Nice win! Missed the 2nd half unfortunately, but I’m glad we got the dub. If you would’ve told me before the game that Jayden Stone would score 34 points on 12/15 shooting, I would’ve assumed a loss was incoming. But we shot the lights out (63%/50%/92%), had more assists (16) than turnovers (13), and Tyson Acuff is a stud. That was enough to get a road win! We now have more D1 OOC wins than we had all of last season, and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet. This team is fun, and I can’t wait to get down to Ypsi and see them in person.

RE: EMU Men at Detroit November 21
The reasons for EMU's unexpected success so far this year:

There was no real floor leader last year. This year Acuff is the leader and carrying the team night after night.

Real team work on both offense and defense-no one not passing, taking all the shoots, being out of position or dogging it on defense and rebounding.

The sum on this year's team is bigger than the individual parts.

It will be interesting to see if the roles change once Lovejoy comes back from injury.

We overestimate the team chemistry last year and perhaps some of us underestimated the team chemistry this year.

FWIW, I noticed Lovejoy on the bench in shorts, and the official Twitter account showed him warming up with the team. Seems like he’s really close to returning. Not sure what’s going on with Rice or Billingsley.

Ditto Sam! I held off in buying season tickets as a protest based on last season's epic failure. This team won me over when I watched them on television against Georgia Southern.

Sam, I was at the UofD game and Lovejoy hobbled thru warmups. I would guess he’s a couple weeks away but you never know - he’s young.

I’m worried about Billingsley who had an air boot on his left leg / ankle. He’s getting an MRI this week - it would be a tough blow to him and the team if he’s out for the season.

Thanks for the info, Luckeyone. Bad news on both accounts. Especially Billingsley- hope it is not serious.

Curious about Rice. Injury too?

It's been a long time since we've had this many assists. It shows team work and spreading that ball around. More passing that can confuse the defense. 07-coffee3

Two other things that I note for this year's team:

1. Because everyone is making an effort playing defense there aren't as many stupid fouls caused by players being out of position as there was last year. Getter is a great example. There were so many games last year that he either fouled out or had bench time due to fouls. This year so far that hasn't happened.

2. Remember Spottsville a guy who did all the little things to help the team win? You know defense, rebounding, passing but didn't score as much? We didn't have that last year. Meet Julius Ellerbe III the new Spottsville a guy who does all the little things that help a team win.

Agree. And would add that Ellerbe is more athletic/versatile than Spottesville (no knock on Spottesville intended, rather praising Ellerbe). And he has demonstrated this in EACH of the first 5 games- so pretty consistent at it so far. Ellerbe was a really big pickup for this recruiting class, although his style of play does not always make that obvious.

Osojnik/McGriff were also nice pickups in different ways, but neither has been as consistent. That said, I don’t think anyone should be disappointed with either Martynov or Serven. So overall, really good class. Would imagine they all stick around for another year too.

I think Ellerbe is the hidden gem of Stan's recruiting class. Guess who has the most rebounds and assists for EMU this season?

If I was doing play by play and Spottsville had a breakaway layup or dunk, I would have had the following catchphrase: "Take the last train to Spottsville and I'll meet you at the station!"

Darion Spottsville had in no question, the WORST shooting stroke of any EMU player in recent memory, that guy could lay bricks for sure. I would rather see a dunker like Booby Toure shoot a 15-foot jumper. Nevertheless, he busted his ass, much like everyone on this current team does. That is why I like this team.

I like Martynov clogging up the middle. He’s much quicker than Mo Njie, and possibly stronger too. Since he’s just a sophomore, if he works on defensive positioning, he could be a top rebounder in the MAC and his offensive game around the basket should improve with more experience.

I do play a what if game if Carson Cooper would have signed with us. If you recall, Carson was going to sign with EMU then MSU swooped in at the last minute and took him.

I love Juice Ellerbes game but Martynov makes huge contributions on defense.

I just checked in on Njie. He's averaging 4 minutes per game this year and has only played in 2 games. Averaged 6 minutes last year. He's a bench warmer!

Wonder how he feels about that transfer now. Hope he got a good NIL deal and gets his degree.
