RE: Kent State in the Virgin Islands
agree re Rollins, moss, bass. Reggie did well v. Hampton, but he regressed last night. I tell people if hornbeak can improve just a little bit, it will help a lot. I think we're seeing that, but it seems he can only be on court in short bits, because of his propensity to foul. gio will find his shot, sully will be consistent, bass has to reign it in some. i'm confident sendy will see to that. that's what the preseason's about.

I think VCD is solid and pretty consistent ... but I think in terms of production Gillespie has much more upside and needs more baseline minutes.

Also agree about Moss ... Bass is a hot and cold guy. Problem is, he can't be cold when Gio/Sully are cold. Also seems to be taking a lot of 3s ... I thought his game was more taking it to the basket.

We're all learning.

BTW ... I thought Gio broke his right wrist last season. Was it actually his left. (Not being funny, serious question).

He broke a finger on his right hand. He started last year cold, He will find his shot. Kent just had a night where everyone was cold. 03-banghead

Here’s the positive spin. We got outrebounded by 14 and shot 13% from three. Most teams that’s a 20 point beating. This team has grit and still had a chance to win. That grit will serve us well down the road.,

Another "good" thing, if you can call it that, is that the only thing that really matters in the MAC is conference games, and sometimes you learn more about where you are and what to work on from losses, more so than from pulling out ugly wins. The MAC is a one-bid league, and now even the NIT is out, so the two losses so far, even though I wish they had won them, do no harm and may even do some good in the long run.

I said that a lot last year. Here's the thing about early-season games/losses, I don't want to get to the NCAA Tournament and play another BS first-round beating because we lost to some BS early-season team. I get that they're gelling, I get that there's still bugs. But when the selection committee meets in April, they look at the wins and losses. This is not the pre-season, this is the season. I'm not trying to bash coaching or "the process," but Selection Sunday has not been good to the MAC in the past 20 years.

True, and I'm sure everyone wishes they were undefeated, but the fact is that the selection committee isn't going to do the MAC champion any favors at any rate. That's just life in the big city, as it were.

We have some very good teams left in the nonconference schedule, if we can win those this loss will look like a blip. Hoping Gio finds his stroke.

Understand this comment, but think it applies to last year's team more than this year's. This year we're replacing our best two players so that's just the unfortunate reality that we will have a few bumps in the road while we learn who we are and how to replace two elite players.

Watched Sunday night and now Monday. We look terrible. Payton is the only one doing anything. Simply ugly!

Up 10 midway through the second half. If the Flashes win and come out of here 2-1. I would at least consider it purgatory. Which is likely where I’m heading anyway.

They got off to a horrible start, but played somewhat better after that.

What turned it around for Kent ... haven't seen a box score.

Only contact was the guy extending his elbow to try to stop him. Ref didn't seem to have a great angle though, so whatever. Hornbeak is turning into a very nice player. Hopefully he is able to stay on the court more this year.

I like Rollins. Every time Moss gets in there it seems like he does something. Bass on the other hand often does not play within the offense. Wouldn't mind to see some of his minutes going to Moss.

Officiating this tourney as bad as I have ever seen. ONLY
6 refs for 12 games in 4 days meant some days they each
did two games
Refs we had for Missouri St game horrible. 2 of the 3 did
tonights game vs Fordham and they were clueless again.
Both coaches went crazy but stayed on the court because
they realized the situation. Better refs in CYO
league.

KSU really toughed it out tonight against a tough
team
MAC officiating will look good after this trip

Fordham was 25-8 with 3 seniors last year. Looks like a real solid W on paper

Go Flashes!

KSU cut down on the Turnovers (14 1sr half and I think only 6 the 2nd half) and rebounded much better 2nd half. We ended up winning the rebounding battle by one (got killed on boards 1st half). Also made 29-35 FT’s.
