With the news breaking that Jimbo Fisher will be fired today, there are many U of L fans who have openly speculated about re-engaging with recruit Reuben Owens, who flipped his verbal to Texas A&M when Satterfield left for Cincy.

Reuben famously tatooed himself with area code 502, so he's already got that covered.

BUT ... it seems to me that SMU is positioned well to poach some Aggies. SMU can afford to "take over" current A&M NIL deals (which have been reported to be massive).

Any SMU posters have a handle on this breaking news? Am I on to something, or trying to hard to force it?

In addition to players, are there any assistant coaches on the A&M staff worth interviewing?

Jimbo Fisher's most successful QB recruit is Haynes King. True story.

UL should nab their OC.

Although ... he did land us the recruit who won the Heisman. Which I know rubs Clemson fans the wrong way. So ... there's that.

How do you go about poaching a guy with a long term (4 or 5 year) NIL deal?

Technically you can't require a player play for a certain team with NIL. That's why you wait for him to play before you give him the money.

But if someone wants to leave after a coaching change, I think they'll lose their NIL deals and be free agents again.

I would think most NIL deal would be year to year just for such a case. No one wants to pay a player for playing for a different school.

Right ... when I said "take over" I did not mean literally (which is why I put it in quotes). I meant they could afford the same amount paid out in whatever NIL deals A&M had in place if not a little more.

Or less, depends on the recruit but I imagine most aTm recruits did not live up to their 4-star and 5-star billing.

Is that the result of poor talent evaluation during recruiting, or poor coaching after enrollment?

I think it depends on who is fronting the money. If I am a car dealership in College Station and the kid transfers to SMU I drop the deal completely. If I am a global shoe company and the kid transfers to SMU, I reevaluate the deal. That could mean a lower payout or completely dropping the deal. SMU is just an example. It doesn't matter where the kid goes.

I wonder if all those NIL deals would get reevaluated based on the new coach. If they were to hire Dave Doeren (please, please, PLEASE!) the deals would seem to be worth less than if they hired Nick Saban.

What if they hired Deion Sanders? The circus comes to the SEC!?!

UL should nab their OC.

Why not, we are still paying him a head coaching salary.03-banghead

Actually we stopped paying Bobby last year. We are, however, still paying Tom until 2026.

"Because Petrino did not finish out his contract before he got fired, Louisville had to buy him out. They owed him over 14 million dollars that was to be paid out until 2022. Meanwhile, the University of Louisville bought out the former Athletic Director Tom Jurich of his contract and he is set to be paid through 2026."

12th Man Foundation's infusion of cash forecasted Jimbo Fisher firing

Apparently $77.6 mil is no big deal for Texas A&M.

And even though they got $160 mil up front, they will still probably take 7 years to pay it out as per the terms of his contract.

So.... plenty of money to throw at a new coach.

The Jimbo daddy Aggie got was the same Jimbo that FSU had at the end of his tenure; a control freak with a bunch squandered talent and a bunch of assistants that nobody else wanted.
