Good thing they made that 9th!

App State was on a run got it down to 3 and Phil made a 3 pointer to stop the bleeding so yes it was important

That was the 8th 3-pointer.

(I had to look it up before I made that last comment because I thought it was too!)

Nutter made the 9th 3-pointer a little later.

I know but the point is making that many 3 pointers and a team is hard to beat. I’m going to bet that 90% of NIU wins they will make 8 or more 3’s and in 90% of their losses they will make less than that.

It is early, but this team seems to have an edge to them and have allot of confidence . This is going to be a fun season.

This team is as talented and deep as any team over the last 25 years. The big question mark is rebounding. They might have to play Konan and Harvin together if the rebounding does not improve. Amos or Butler (the 4s) should concentrate/emphasize on getting boards. That should be their focus this year. That is what this team needs. They need to get better in that regard and if one steps up they will play and likely start. I am hoping Amos gets a little tougher under the basket. He surely has the talent.

They definitely need more rebounding as Amos seems to really not be a power forward. I hate to say it but a glaring weakness is if David Coit misses any substantial time they’d have no replacement

Williams coming back from injury - he’s the Coit backup. Both guys are All MAC scorers. Probably don’t fit on court together since I think both guys best position is the 2.

As far as PG depth I like Russell and am looking forward to seeing Muhammad when back from injury.

Last year, Coit really impressed me handling the ball. He's a much better distributor than I think he gets credit for.

Kaleb Thornton was possibly the best passer I've seen come through NIU in quite some time, but I don't think Coit is all that far behind him.

It's just...he can shoot from anywhere in the arena so I think it just gets overlooked by fans.

Williams is far from Coit's backup...he is a big time scorer if he returns to form after the injury...he and Coit together makes for a dynamite scoring backcourt. first guard off bench is zion and then the frosh, Will--

I think Amos is explosive but may be better suited as a 3 who can slash and shoot the 3...Also, X is a is a very good shot blocker especially from the weak side...

Coit and Williams are All-MAC scorers, and I think Williams goes toe-to-toe with German in terms of being able to create his own shot. My personal opinion though, is that both on the court together gives things up defensively. I look to last year, we were 4-9 in non-conference with both guys (and yes it was a hard schedule and we had a lot of new guys). After Williams went down, the pairing of Thornton and Coit allowed David to be the primary scorer (I can't think of a better spot up shooter we've had in the last decade or two) and

This App St team has reeled off 4 straight wins and lost to Oregon St in OT since we beat them. They are now 5-2.

Also, Little Rock beat the pants off Ball State on Tuesday.

Btw, the Indiana State game coming up...I'm not as confident about. I didn't realize they were quite as good as they are. I was thinking they were a run of the mill G5 team of no significance. But they will be a challenge. Nice to have them in DeKalb.

Beating App State and winning at Georgia State are very impressive. Would not have imagined that would happen so quickly for Burno. Little Rock is a solid win too.

Indiana State is a different level. I have them as one of the top 5 mid-majors in the country and I think they could wreak some havoc in March.

Per Kenpom, 90% of the minutes NIU has played this year is with Coit at PG. What position you think he’s best at feels irrelevant, he’s the PG.

Williams and Coit fit fine together on the court! If Williams can be his old self the best lineup would be Coit, Williams, Nutter, Amos and Konan. Phil is a bench player that can come in a score a little. We beat Indiana St last year at their place with Coit and Williams
