They're definitely not above you....they lost to Maine at home last night. BU used to have a strong basketball program....that Patriot League has destroyed them. I don't see why any CAA school would want to join the Patriot unless they have given up on competitive collegiate athletics.
I think you misread my comment. They aren't above thus why I listed them as an option.

So you want to bring in the weakest athletic programs possible?

Boston is nowhere near the weakest. Also where do you think the CAA is going to pull from, the A10? The AAC? Those conferences are not going to be available to pry schools from. So in a way, yes, the only pull is going to be from lesser conferences (AEast, Patriot, NEC, MAAC etc)

Hey if you feel like adding BU is the best that the CAA can do....go for it!

RE: If Delaware leaves...
This might give some of you pause of what you think the financials of each conference are.....

2022 Revenue:

MAAC - $9.635 million
America East - $12.418 million
CAA - $9.082 million
Patriot - $5.239 million

MAAC revenue: projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/133117436

America East revenue: projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/10438846

CAA revenue: projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/541670009

Patriot revenue: projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/232570860

The CAA has take as huge hit in recent years losing some of their most attractive members, continuing the horrible media deal that they have with FloSports and having more mouths to feed than ever.....mouths that bring very little to the table.

On the other hand....America East and the Patriot have doubled their revenue in the past decade

Taking a look back to 2013 revenues....

CAA - $11.225 million
MAAC - $6.193 million
America East - $5.663 million
Patriot - $2.647 million

This is disingenuous. The only circumstance in which BU would leave the Patriot is if they're looking to invest in their basketball program beyond the Patriot League level. They have the enrollment and endowment to succeed pretty much immediately if they do invest. So if BU leaves the Patriot, you better hope and pray that their destination is the America East.

They downgraded all of their sports moving to the Patriot League. The only sport they fully fund and support is ice hockey. No one would even notice if they dropped their other sports.

Logically, it would follow that they would upgrade all of their sports by moving out of the Patriot League. They would have no reason to make the move otherwise.

To be clear, I don't expect BU to move out of the Patriot League.

I don't either. The BU ship has sailed and they lie in state in the Patriot League.

BU aligned themselves with a conference that has money & stability. That's called building a foundation for the future.

You can't build or plan for the future in a chaotic conference with misaligned values (CAA)

BU....the world renown university will always have money and stability. They certainly did not "build a foundation for the future" for their athletic dept. by moving to the Patriot though.

It sure was a lot of fun today, and it is a shame that the CAA is losing a strong program where both the men's and women's basketball teams are basically followed by an entire state, and has a potentially very large fan base. Where schools like Towson, Drexel, and Northeastern are barely noticed by the local media, Delaware's teams have their own newspaper beat writers and get local radio coverage as well.

RE: If Delaware leaves...
with watching delaware leave...i feel like i'm watching two trains going full speed at each other and there's nothing to stop the train wreck. or something like that. i want them to succeed since i'm a closet fan. delaware stadium is a great place to watch a game. it just seems like they're so poorly positioned to make this move. jmu was ready to go in football, basketball (men's/women's), and several other sports. outside of maybe lacrosse...ud athletics has really underachieved.

i do appreciate their enthusiasm and desire to move up in the world. something we could learn from.

After the UMass move, it really feels like Delaware rushed things. The MAC with UMass feels like a much more natural home for the Blue Hens. CUSA is a fast track to D1 purgatory.

Agree...CUSA is a grouping of schools who want to be FBS but cannot get into their natural G5 conference

NMSU, UTEP - MWC
MTSU, FIU, Sam Houston St - AAC
Delaware, WKU - MAC
Liberty, Kennesaw, Jacksonville St, LA Tech - Sun Belt
