That’s exactly what they want. Don’t give it to them.
Make them initiate the split and explain to a congressional committee why they want to leave the NCAA but stay tax exempt.

RE: NIT
Hey NCAA, tell us you don’t want us without telling us you don’t want us!
EDIT: Actually, I think they literally told us they don’t want us.

I get the mind set, but if we are part of it but not really included, are we really part of it? Its like we're "on the team" but the coaches (NCAA) say we cant get off the bench no matter how good we are or what we do. And that's by design.

RE: NIT
They can leave the NCAA but they can't leave the USA. Sounds like the gov't is going to have to bust up the anti-trust and include all representatives of a division in all post-season events, equitably, as well as split all TV revenue from a pot, equally divisible amongst all teams in the divisions, either through conference or independent individuals. ESPN et al can deal with the NCAA openly and on the record. Any pushback will result in the IRS crawling up their a$$ with a microscope. Not a fan of socialism, but college sports need a great reset. And make some division parameters that are easily discernible and enforceable and enforce them, including a winning season once every 4 years. No more coattail riding for $80 million.

For now, we at least still get a slice of the profits, measly as it may be. We may be warming the bench, but we’re still under contract. That’s what allows them to hide behind us and say we’re all on the same team and this is an amateur sports endeavor.
If we leave of our own accord, then it’s, “Hey, they asked to leave because they couldn’t keep up. That’s not our fault,” at which point they’ll just keep all the money with no blowback or oversight. We will have relegated and bankrupted ourselves for the sake of “a chance” that only a small handful of schools ever really get regardless.

RE: NIT
The NCAA tourney is where the money is. Not the NIT. This may knock a handful of non power conference teams out every year of the NIT. But, with only being able to keep 30% (and only if you host) of the tickets sold it's not financially hurting any of us. Some people need to climb down from the roof.
This should be strongly and loudly protested. And it generally has been. Though I wish more coaches and conference commissioners would be involved in protesting this. At the same time this is not some event that really changes much. It needs to be protested more for how it could effect future ideas to exclude non power teams rather than how much this actually hurts us now.

G5 teams should turn down invitations to the NIT. No money to be made and taking conference champs auto spot from it makes it less prestigious. Let them have less spots filled or have to invite 8 win teams. That embarrassment could push the NIT back down to where it as before they regained some legitimacy by taking on the Champs that didn't make the NCAA Tournament.

Heck yeah. Especially mid major basketball fans. As the Privileged 5 have basically locked us out of all but 1 bid in the NCAA tournament, the NIT provided a tournament comprised of many of the best mids in college basketball. A team can have 25 wins or more, blow through their conference, and stumble for one game in the tournament and wind up sitting home while some .500 team in the Big 10 goes dancing or at worst in the NIT. Its simply not right. The only upside to this is maybe the CBI (if it still exists) will become the defecto mid major national championship since the NIT is basically the losers bracket for the P5.

Honestly, the NIT is the FCS of basketball tournaments. No one cares.
