The defense started out solid for us. The offense has been the real hindrance to start the season. QB DSmith struggled with the passing game, many passes off the mark, but also many passes just plain dropped. He is slowly coming around and as he's gotten better, so has the offensive production and scoring. But he still has lapses in execution, prime example is the last throw of the UT game - WR was wide open, he just threw way behind him.
The D is still solid, but our DBs get burned too easily if the D line cannot hurry the QB into throwing the ball.
Looking back, I remember the preseason predictions on here ranged from cynical to being optimistic and going bowling at 6-6 (my prediction in fact), some even 7-5, and despite our horrible start to the season, we still have a chance to get there if they keep improving.
I just wish the team would start out with the same effort as they showed in the 2nd halves of the Rice and UT games. In both those games we spotted the opposition a 21 point lead... tough to overcome that.
Some argue that's squarely on CDH, but I'm of the opinion that since these are paid athletes we're talking about now, I think we should expect them to take a team seriously enough to play all 4 quarters, and not blame it on that the coach didn't tell them to do that.
