Second Halves and Lack of Adjustments
Inspired by Answer, I went and looked at our scores in second halves vs opponents.

In FBS competition:

First half: UAB outscored 153-125 (average score: 21.9 to 17.9)
Second half: UAB outscored 135 (and counting) - 72 (average score: 19.3 to 10.3)

We have given up either 17 or 21 in every second half. While we like to focus on the lack of defensive adjustments, the defensive adjustments other coaches are making on us can also be to blame. In 7 FBS second halves, we've scored 21 twice (Louisiana/USF), 13 once (Ga Southern), 7 twice (Georgia/UTSA), 3 once (Tulane), and are now sitting on a goose egg. Our defense is consistently bad; our offense sputters as the game wears on.

Could be the staff really needs to learn college football. The step up might be a lot for them this year.

RE: Second Halves and Lack of Adjustments
Our coaching staff is exposed at halves, our quarterbacks have catastrophic turnovers (including Zeno), and we big down in the red zone due to poor play calling.

I didn’t mind us going for it on 4th down both times today in the first. Then play calls on those 4th downs was AWFUL. Run up the middle with a tiny running back and a bad offensive line, both times.

Poor coaching and bad decision making today.

Now we get into the most winnable area of the schedule. Luckily it comes toward the end. Hopefully we'll have Zeno the rest of the way after the bye week.

How many of those will we be favorites in? One?

We had 323 total yards at the half, and 343 at the end of the third quarter. Ugly.

At least we have a week off now for the stretch run but not sure it's going to make a difference even w/ Temple

It's just easier to blame Dilfer. So that's what most people are doing.

Probably...I think the rational expectation from here is to split the final four games, go in at 4-8, and try to build for next year. Sight unseen, that was my prediction at the beginning of this season...but man is it a lot tougher to watch it unfold before my eyes. 03-lol

Same here FN. I said before the season that four wins would probably be considered a relative success. Watching it in real life is much harder haha

Temple is really bad, so that should be a win. I could see us being underdogs in the other 3 games so winning one would be nice. North Texas and FAU have both improved with new coaches.

Yup. It's a competition between UAB and Charlotte for crappiest new member in the AAC.

Thanks Ray, Mark, Bill, and Trent. You guys all make bank while the lowly fans pay financially and emotionally for this bull****.

the ESPN 'prognosticator' thingy has us as favorites against FAU and Temple, and close dogs against Navy and UNT - like a 51%-49% deal... so who knows. I would say the Navy game is the one I'm most leery of, with their relentless running attack - we better learn how to tackle in space REAL quick...

RE: Second Halves and Lack of Adjustments
We appear to still have a ceiling of only scoring 21-27 points against decent teams. That’s an issue that remains from previous regime. Now we are giving up McGee/Callaway era points on defense.

2nd half adjustments was the biggest issue from previous staff in probably 80% of the games we played. We either couldn’t rally or had to hang on to our butts and hope the Defense didn’t bend or break.

Still an issue now.

Home - favorites
Away (where we have yet to win) - close underdogs.

So makes sense.
