I do Blazer Thunder. I also yell on third down, big plays and when we score whether I am prompted to or not. I choose to not be a cause of the lack of noise or energy at our games. Based on some of the posts in this thread, there are some that prefer to be part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

I’ve noticed similar quietness during Stallions games (unless there is a big play). I know sure as hell those fans have gone to Auburn or Alabama games or large high school games, so why are they quiet too?
What is up with Birmingham crowds?!

Students drive the noise...and we don't have any that show up to football games. Well, besides homecoming. Then they're loud as hell at halftime, and yeet right around kickoff of the second half.

At least for basketball I thought there was a noticeable increase in student attendance from 2022 to 2023 season

RE: Gross - Memphis game is at 11am
Pre-shutdown. I used to sit with a group of UAB grads above the president seats at Legion field on the 50 yd line. I grew up with those people. 15 years of sitting with them. They’d make noise. Do every chant. Sing the fight song, sing The Blazer Victory song. The band would send 15-20 to our section specifically because of that.

This group would be there whether we were winless, rain, shine, hot, cold. They’d sneak in Jack Daniels. They’d walk in 5 minutes late occasionally from their tail gate. They’d also have money invested in blazer Alumni club or whatever. I forget the name, but theyd be under the alumni tent eating pregame meals every time I ventured over to blazer village, too. These were Die hard fans, grads at that. They’d be at every football game. They’d be at every hoops game. Have green and gold room access. Still do til this day. This is all pre-shutdown.

I didn’t learn many names well over the years. I know Mrs. Rogers, was one of our group. She and Tim Alexander went from town to town all spring getting resolutions of support gathered up in the spring of 2015.

Fast forward to #TheReturn, we as fans have been asked to invest more which makes much of the group I grew up with, move to the club level. As they did put their money where their mouth is. The spirit of the crowd, our group had split up. Now we are at protective. Some of us sit scattered in 125 & 126 or sit in the expensive seats with club access on the west side.

At legion field, (pre-shutdown)the souvenir cups would have the schedule on them or they’d have the fight song on them. That’s how I learned it.

I do make noise even when I’m not told to. I’ll wear the silly shirts. However, I have an emotional attachment, while others are actual grads. Like I said, I grew up at UAB games. I had gone to games with my uncle who held season tickets since the club days and my grand father who held hoops season tickets from Bartow’s start til Mike Davis 2nd year.

I wasn’t forced to choose between UA, AU, UAB. Was given the choice to go to the games or not. I did, so basically I’m a rare breed. Raised on UAB Athletics. A die hard fan.

I don’t have answers on how to get the crowd emotionally invested. I do know that after the Return, folks finally started to make noise at legion field. We did not capitalize on any of that momentum on the field in the move to protective stadium.

Not having Snoozy’s, plays a big role, too. They sponsored so many giveaways, used to have the blimp at the hoops games. Full moon sponsored giveaways. I remember the gang green shirts.

I feel like in certain departments, we don’t have the UAB alumni. So, there’s nobody to carry on what little traditions we did have. Many people quit, got laid off when Carol was no longer in charge. Ingram brought in his own people.

I’ll stop here. Just some thoughts I had.

I get that Alabama is hosting Tennessee and Auburn is hosting Ole Miss (big story with both coaches), but these local sports radio shows and TV need to throw us a damn bone (pun intneded) and hype up the return of the Battle For the Bones!
I understand if we were playing any other team it would be buried in the news with those 2 instate games, but we finally have this rivalry back.
And it's not just a UAB rivalry, in our pro sports, Stallions, the late Iron, and Legion all have rivalries with Memphis teams.

Besides having Dilfer on, I have heard nothing about the return of the Battle For the Bones on those shows. On local TV, just a small blurb under "other games".

Another reason Protective is empty, Birmingham media doesn't help or care about Birmingham's team(s).

Those folks were the GreenHouse. I was one of them sitting exactly where you stated. Now some of us are on the east side and others on the west side. We're still rowdy but just not in the same section as in the past. Go Blazers!.

That's because 99% of their audience don't care either.

In fairness, we don’t capitalize with wins when we get exposure. Possibly About to go 1-4 on 5 straight nationally televised games. We have the same issue in hoops. If I’m not a diehard fan, I’m saying “show me something”. When you’ve said that for so long, there comes a time when you stop caring.

The Next Round guys got on the bandwagon for #TheReturn. Probably lost them with the Liberty home game.

Somebody in our athletic dept has to decide to carry the banner. Perhaps, ladies hoops does it this year. Like the pieces added and shouldn’t have as many injury issues so early in the season, again.

I keep reading this, but every news cast I see them mention our games in their sports segments or weather forecast. Some of that has to do with our advertising department. Ads aint free on TV and most UAB ads I see are on twitter or Facebook.

Plus, you gotta win to get noticed. Hard truth. This hasn't been the most shining introduction to the AAC.

While yes, they do speak about UAB, given not as much as those SEC schools, and yes they do talk about us a bit more than they have 10 years ago.

But this is the revival of a rivalry and of one of the most unique trophies in CFB. You would think they would have pieces written for this weekend, but no, they just care about the Tenn v Bama game and trying to create a rivalry out of Ole Miss and Auburn with the weird connection of both schools coaches.

You would think Jox would bring it up, considering they have one of their own on the sidelines AND our games are broadcast through them, but they barely talked about it. They had Dilfer on and thats about it.

Most of the potential future fanbase of UAB doesn't watch or listen to the "Birmingham media". Thinking that's somehow a path to more fans is straight out of 1994 and a dead end.

I mean you're right. But this is a walk up town. I'm talking random people that would try to catch random game if they knew it would be an event. I've already talked about my disdain of the lack of leadership in UAB marketing as well as Gang Green for student support.

I guess I mainly looking for respect, but that ain't gonna happen till we start winning.
