This is JMU’s last year of the so-called, NCAA mandated transition in football.
JMU FB will be fully eligible for post-season play in 2024.
I know rules are rules and they are in place for a reason, HOWEVER, I think it's stupid that should have to wait until 2024.
I think they have proven that on the field.

Its just that we understand that if we classify them as champion, we'd be ineligible to represent the G5 in an access bowl.
The Sun Belt declared Georgia Southern Champion in 2014 when they were ineligible for a bowl, but that also occurred before we had a CCG, and when we were clearly not a threat for an NY6 game.
So *in theory* if we look to be outside of the NY6 race by seasons end JMU could be awarded a spot in the CCG if they finished top of the East?
I *almost* hope that happens because I'd love to see Troy win out and get a 2nd chance at the Dukes even if it is in front of their own fans.
I think the more likely scenario that causes it is JMU going undefeated in the regular season and the SBC letting them play the CCG and doing a full court press to make everyone aware of their plight.
Interesting. Cignetti kinda hinted that it might not be impossible a week or two ago and, like Troy_Fan_15, I assumed SBC NY6 potential was the big deciding factor. This makes sense too though. Hell, we could do a UCF style "claimed national championship" if it happens lol

If JMU is undefeated and doesn't get a shot at NY6 (which yeah long shot because dumb rules), you're my national champions!

the short answer is yes.
The operative words in the question are “another year”….this year (2023 season) is the last year of “transition” for JMU FB…so the correct answer is no. There is not “another year” of waiting.
Considering you weren't eligible last year and this season/year is not over yet, then yes you have to wait "another year" (2023) to be eligible in 2024. And I'll bet if you asked the OP, that is exactly what he meant with his question. If you want to really get technical, the bowls and CCG are not until December so you will have to wait the rest of this year AND next year to be eligible so technically you have to wait MORE THAN A YEAR to find out if you are eligible.
Ah, yes, it’s already 2023. Duh.
“Technically” (you seem to want to split hairs) it’s not “another year” (or better put, “season”) for JMU to be fully eligible for a bowl because JMU is already playing “this year” (or season) of its so-called “two-year transition” …which quite clearly means there is not another year of waiting (or season) yet to be played to be fully eligible for post-season competition. There are simply no more “years” for JMU to wait to play in a bowl after 2023.
Oh, and if we really want to be “technical” about eligibility, JMU is already eligible for a bowl this year (the 2023 season). Should JMU meet the minimum of 6 wins, and there are not enough bowl eligible teams to fill all 2023 bowls, JMU is eligible to be invited to play in a bowl this year. That’s an unlikely possibility, and I don’t think most JMU fans are expecting to play in a bowl this year (I’m not), it is a technical possibility.
Granted, what the original poster meant by waiting “another year” is open to interpretation, and if they want to clarify their intent that would be A-OK by me. I simply took their stated “another year” to mean exactly that, as teams are already half-finished playing this season. In the end, in most likely hood, JMU will be playing in a bowl next year.

I think Marshall should claim the NC for 1999.
