RIP Blazer Baseball Brother
I doubt very few of you would know who he was, but we lost a former Blazer baseball alum today. Jerry Legrone was a teammate of mine on the first two UAB baseball teams, in 1979 and 1980. He was a pitcher, who had played his first two years at Jeff State (and before that Jones Valley High School in Birmingham).
Jerry was one of the good guys. He was a salt-of-the-earth guy who was a good friend back in the day. I haven’t seen him in person in many years, but we were friends on Facebook. His wife announced his passing this evening.
Side note: Jerry had a great arm. He used to be able to stand at home plate at Rickwood Field and throw a baseball over the roof in right field.
Jerry lived in Pinson and was a husband, father and grandfather. So very sad to hear of his passing and to lose a Blazer brother.
