Case in point: right now, through 5 games, we have a season total of 161 penalty yards. A year ago at the same point, that number was 288. Through 5 games during Clark's last year, we had 418 penalty yards. Attention to detail, and chewing ass when others aren't, will pay dividends. I'd grown tired of the "aw shucks" response to stuff like 12 men on the field, so I found Dilfer's response a breath of fresh air.

And then I will say I'm also impressed with his response above. Leadership looks like a lot of things. Sometimes it looks like an ass chewing. Sometimes it looks like the statement he made later, being disappointed in his own response in the heat of the moment. As I've told some others, I don't like being 1-4, but I see a lot of things I like. I believe we're headed in the right direction. And I don't think firing an assistant coach 5 games into his job is a sensible response. You hold people accountable, chew their ass when they've mucked it up, and give them an opportunity to respond and get better.

I completely agree. Very well put.
