I agree. The odds that the four current bowl eligible teams end up being the only four teams to go to a bowl are actually pretty good. Down year for the MAC.

Really, really down year. Miami is decent and Toledo is probably the best team since PJ's Broncos but:

Kent, Akron, Ball St and EMU would all have locked up the conference basement in prior years. All four are painful to watch.

NIU, CMU, Buffalo and Ohio are not very good but are piling up a lot of wins beating up on the "horrendous four" and each other.

WMU and BG are rebuilding, in past years they would be nearer to the bottom, but due to conference weakness, they are now top tier teams.

I mostly agree with that. I think EMU is more in the NIU/CMU/BUF group, and Ohio is a tick above them. I'd place MAC teams this way this year:

Tier 1
Toledo

Tier 2
Miami

Tier 3
Ohio

Tier 4
Western
Bowling Green

Tier 5
Eastern
Central
Northern Illinois
Buffalo

Tier 6
Kent State
Akron
Ball State

Ball State played GaSo, Georgia and Kentucky OOC. Lately the Cards have played Toledo to a TD, beat CMU, lost by a fg to BG, and beat NIU. They are closer to 5th than 12th.

I don't think they are 12th, I think they are better than Kent State or Akron. I just have them in random order in each tier (for example I think Eastern is probably the worst team in tier 5).

I know Ball State has played better lately, but they also lost to Eastern and Western pretty badly. From the handful of times I have seen them I just haven't been too impressed.

Fair enough. Their QB Change has helped the last 4 weeks. If the cards had Steele and Paddock they would have contended for the MAC West.

Oh god...I know. I was not sad to see Steele leave, he was a beast.

IF. IF. IF. If we had Johnson on the OL Line and Ben Bryant at QB, we might have been competitive with you. But we were NOT even close.

IF Ryan Rollins had not left your MBB team, Todd K (a great reg season coach) might have made the NCAA tourney for his FIRST time as well. Thirteen years later, however, he has still been found wanting for such. Transfers happen, and IF is not an excuse. Just my opinion.

RE: 2023 MAC bowl picture
The MAC week is now over. No one became eligible but EMU, CMU, and NIU stayed alive while WMU is now done. The MAC will have at least four teams and could have as many as seven.

Bowl eligible
Miami-OH (9-2)
Toledo (10-1)
Ohio (8-3)
Bowling Green (6-5)

Need one more win
Central Michigan
Eastern Michigan
Northern Illinois

Eliminated
Akron
Kent State
Ball State
Buffalo
Western Michigan

Here is our rooting interest this week:

Tuesday
EMU @ Buffalo: Duh

BGSU @ WMU: WMU. Western is done, so lets hope they keep BG at 6-6.

Friday
Toledo @ CMU: Toledo. Let's hope Toledo keeps the Chips out of a bowl.

Ohio @ Akron: Akron. Doesn't really matter so lets go for the upset.

Saturday
Miami-OH @ BSU: Ball State. Again, doesn't really matter so lets go for the upset.

NIU @ KSU: Kent State. We'll go for the Flash and hope NIU is kept out of a bowl.

The MAC kicked some serious butt last year in bowl games. I don't see that happening this year, it was clearly a down year for the conference.

RE: 2023 MAC bowl picture
Well the MAC season is officially over and here is how it played out:

Bowl eligible
Miami-OH (10-2)
Toledo (11-1)
Ohio (9-3)
Bowling Green (7-5)
Eastern Michigan (6-6)
Northern Illinois (6-6)

Eliminated
Akron
Kent State
Ball State
Buffalo
Western Michigan
Central Michigan

With just six bowl teams I believe those six will take the MAC's six direct bowl tie-ins, unless Toledo ends up in a NY6 game.
