SMU and Tulane are good. Memphis maybe. Rice is better than expected. ECU and UTSA are the disappointments. The rest are breaking in new coaches and all the off-season new coach optimism has collided with the reality of having a new coach.

Tulsa has 4000 students

but this isnt about Tulsa sucking or its Gazebo.

This is about the Flames, Appy, Marshall and the Mustard Buzzards

And Im cool if this turns into a Pro Sun Belt thread...bc the best football teams should matter. Not lousy commuter schools in "good markets"

I wouldn't say Tulsa is always tough. Last time we play, UNT rolled Tulsa 42-10.

Also, the city of Tulsa is kind of trashy. Too much crime. Probably why you don't have more students. Maybe You'd be happier in the Belt.

Tulsa is always tough in June. Seen it with my own eyes

But Lynchburg isn't a major market and has a tiny airport, no where near big enough for the Boeing 747's used for all AAC travel. That's why App, Marshall, USM, etc. weren't invited. No space for 747's.

Lynchburgh is 71st out of 210 markets. That is better than East Carolina's market, which is ranked over 100. It is not big city great, but it's above average.

People like you said the exact same thing about Tulane when they joined. All kinds of angst and hand wringing... Then they built a stadium and won an NY6 bowl.

All you people do understand that who wins and loses varies over time... But we're building a conference designed to last. Markets and facilities.

Just breathe y'all...

Let's let's be honest. They would've been a better add to the conference than ECU has shown to be.

Your strategy is all wrong . . ..you should be picking winning programs for conference membership, not Marketz.

Though Marketz do provide great airport facilities which can be quickly utilized after a loss .. ..

I agree. The critical need for media money (although scraps by P5 standards) drove the decision and not performance much to my dismay. I would have been willing to sacrifice some money in exchange for quality. Now the AAC relies upon the thin reed of potential.

Right as streaming becomes dominant so does name recognition/brand. People have heard the name Liberty and they know who and what that school is. Plus with Liberty's 1.7 billion dollar endowment, the new NIL environment, and shown commitment to athletics.... has a hell of a lot of potential. Think BYU lite.

Who has Liberty played?
Bowling Green (1-2) 34-24
New Mexico St (2-2) 33-17
Buffalo (0-3) 55-27

Avg attendance less than 20k

They aren’t bad but they aren’t the beast some of you seem to think.

If we are adding I rather have Army, App St or Georgia St over them.

No it’s not. Are there pocket of the city that aren’t desirable? Sure. But that’s the case in any city. Tulsa is fine.

Liberty's only been in FBS what, 5 years? Bowling Green and New Mexico St don't exactly bring out road fans. Liberty's student section is one of the best in the country. Their sports as a whole are better than App. State. Their facilties are easily good enough for the AAC and their athletic budget is already better than mid AAC teams. I do get why they would rather have Army over Liberty. Ga. State, not sure...
