Anecdotal information I know, from my random sampling of three different local newscasts the last two evenings. Even the weather graphics that were placing a UC helmet on gameday forecasts have gone away as they obsess over weather for Friday high school football, Octoberfest, and the Bengals on Sunday.

From my studies in journalism (long ago) it's newsworthy having the 13th straight sellout at Nippert for a game between two local schools with a combined 65,000 students and more than 200,000 tri-state alumni. Our Bearcats are 2-0 to usher in the inaugural season in our highest profile football conference ever, the Big 12. These all seem like worthy storylines locally. Yet, Burrow's haircut was the most newsworthy sports story yesterday.

I've long given up on local media giving a damn about UC athletics. That includes all of the basic cable networks and 700 WLW. I truly believe no catalyst short of the Reds and Bengals being sold to another city will cause them to move UC up the pecking order in terms of regular coverage.

Thankfully we have excellent coverage via the Athletic and BCJ.

Until Lance retires from WLW it’s going to be Reds 24/7 with some Bengals added in due to contractual obligations. He’s going to be talking Reds in in October and November when the Reds season will be over. Tony and Mo do a decent job covering UC, but Lance had the prime spot.

UC didn't take EKU lightly. They'll be ready to stomp Izod U.

Love it...although looking at their latest admission rate, I'd go with JCrew Factory U.

Public Divey

I'll give them one thing, it has been impressive how much they can still pull the wool over some peoples eyes while having an acceptance rate approaching 90% and 10% higher than UC.

Outside of their cult of alums and alum kids who've had it drilled into them since birth, I don't think too many people are buying it anymore.

Agreed. My graduating class at St. X had 60ish or so who went to Miami, 35 to UC, and 11 (including me - don't hate) to Ohio State. This last class - which includes a ton of kids of St. X alums from my generation - sent more than 70 to UC, 50 some to Ohio State, and in the 20s to Miami. Had drinks with a buddy out here a few weeks ago. He's a Miami grad, and his kid just enrolled there too. He wasn't a great student, and it was his safety school.

Same could be said for every high school senior in the Chicagoland area.

Not sure I buy that (bolded) statement. When my daughter graduated from HS 2 years ago, she and a large chunk of her friends all applied to UC and Miami. My daughter was accepted at both (because she was an honors student and was the top 10% of her class) and ultimately chose Miami. However, several of her friends who were very poor students or who were in the bottom half of her class were rejected at Miami, but were accepted at UC.

For the record, we/she have no connection to Miami whatsoever and we are as blue collar family as they come.

Despite their high acceptance rate, Miami does still have a bit of a selectivity advantage over UC, but it's nowhere near as fundamental as you portray it. The average ACT at UC is 26, and it's 28 at Miami (1265 to 1310 for SAT). I would bet that at least 3/4 of the freshman at UC this year could have gone to Miami had they wished. And UC has momentum. Miami is stagnant, has a yield of under 20%, ZERO reputation as a STEM university and is pretty much completely uncompetitive with OSU these days. If they were stocks, I'd have a buy order on UC and a sell order on Miami.

Sometimes you need a range of experience to evaluate...from a guy who has 4 degrees of sundry types...went to Miami, UC, SDSU, and Chase, Miami was sorta just the 13th grade of high school in my personal experience.

Rural-ish location, size, uniform generic brick architecture and fiction generated by alumni has perpetuated the continuing story.

I went there due to free tuition. That's the list. Had some great times off the grid there. The school was the least challenging one I attended.

I Love to hear about the schools of opponents (esp negative facts about Miami and eggz), but I understand Some people are coming here for the Sports side mostly.

I attended UC (twice), Miami, and NKU. Of the three, Miami was the easiest. Professors spoon feed their students. At the time, UC was on the quarter system, which I found to be incredibly quick and difficult. One screw up and your grades were toast.

I enjoyed Miami’s campus - beautiful during the fall and around Christmas. But I got bored. I bartended my way thru school, and drinking is the only form of entertainment in Oxford - and every bar is pretty much the same.

I had a great time at Miami, but I was happy to leave. And I appreciated UC so much more after my Miami experience.

One more thing - the undergrads were book smart with inflated egos - but some of the common sense-stupid people I’ve ever met.

Safety school for rich kids who then spend the rest of their lives trying to convince people that Miami is the equal to the schools they didn't get into. They're irrelevant athletically and are quickly becoming irrelevant academically. Screw 'em.

That was the most obvious play call. That’s really embarrassing with how predictable that play was and how sorry it was defended
