Rice justified their inclusion into the AAC to me with that win.
I will never speak another ill word of them again.
Way to go OWLS!!!

Congrats to Rice!
UAB is breaking in a new coaching staff. Its going to take time for Dilfer to get his players and system into place. Its a damn shame Bill Clark had to retire. He had them on fire.

Unfortunately we all know if he is now “sold” on Rice then we WILL continue to surprise him.
It was a pretty sweet win, though, long overdue, but couldn’t have come at a better time heading in to the big A!
Bye Felicia, er, Fertita!

Curious. GS was breaking in a new coach in 2022. The drip of rule changes finally broke GS’s run based offense. You may remember the W with out a single pass completion in the swamp. That was GS with an FCS roster. That offense was scrapped by Clay Helton. With a relatively balanced offense to defend UAB breaks all time pass break up records in our 22 14 pt loss. Me thinks the refs may have been slightly dismissive. But I digress. How does this square with the excuses?

There’s one thing not mentioned in this thread.
The Owl Cup is still anybody’s at this point. It’s a dead heat.
FAU 1-1
Rice 1-1
Temple 1-1
This could go down to the wire.

I'm a Tiger fan, and we didn't come in to the AAC as world beaters.
Give the newbies the time it took us to grow. I still think the AAC has potential.
I will concede that the new guys need to figure it out faster than the rest of us did tho.

Exactly.
Imagine that. A Memphis fan who hates basketball. And he's telling the truth.
Come to think of it, basketball is way down my list. So is football, for than matter.
My order of love for sports:
1. MLB
2. Golf
3. MMA (UCF only)
4. Soccer
5. NASCAR
6. College Football
7. College Basketball
And I absolutely abhor both the NFL and the NBA. And I ignore hockey and tennis. Zero interest in all those.
And if it weren't for Memphis, I probably wouldn't watch college sports at all.
you made me reexamine my love for sports...so here goes
1. college football
2. college basketball
3. watching paint dry
4. NFL
5. root canal
6. NBA
7. visiting mother-in-law
8. NASCAR

I agree, but Dilfer has been pugnacious and, to date, can not present his receipts. Dilfer was very successful at the private high school level with tremendous assets (eg IPF), flowing cash, and often free education. Now he is a college coach with UAB’s resources rather than Alabama type resources.

And here I thought that defense was going to be problematic for us. Defense actually scored our only TD Saturday and kept Ohio to only 17 points.

He has installed a brand new offense, with a brand new offensive line, a new starting qb and many new faces at the skill positions, and done that pretty well. We were all fairly confused by the DC hire, and to this point still are, but it's what we have for now. If the defense can catch up to the offense we will be just fine. The bottom line is one offseason isn't enough time to completely revamp what a team is and expect them to be perfect.
Dilfer appears to be recruiting really well, which is something we have not been great at in the past. I just want to see everything progressing this year. There weren't many Blazer fans out there hoping for much more than 6-6 this season, with progress being made as the season went on.

Hey here's a legit opportunity for spit balling. The UAB loss wasn't.
I'll wager UAB makes a solid run for the conference title.

I agree, but it does not address my post comments. Your focus is on lowering expectations. My focus is on his ability to win (brashness aside) without lavish resources. My observation has been validated early, although more time is needed before rendering judgement.

RE: How the AAC fared Week 2
My focus is on having realistic expectations for any brand new coach to FBS football. There are positives and negatives to what Dilfer has done so far, but I do believe the wins will come. If you asked me before the season if I thought the offense would be 75% of what it currently is, I would have said absolutely no way. Unfortunately the same can be said about how poorly the defense has been performing. Saturday's game is a pivotal one in our season. There are some gettable AAC games on the schedule, but if we go 1-3 OOC and 0-2 vs the Sun Belt, it's a poor start to his career.

This could go down to the wire.
I think we were planning to award it as a traveling trophy… with Temple the Incumbent.
I’m surprised to see that Temple is “ducking” both other Owls this season, so we may strip them of the trophy and award it to the Rice/FAU winner on Thanksgiving Weekend.
You can duck one owl
But you can’t duck two
Don’t wanna hear you howl
Quack quack, Temple U!

That makes most sense to me. And it's the last game of the season. Extra added tension.
