RE: 2023 Fall Sports
I get it, but agree. If a coach comes in and does well they should be praised, not lambasted for leaving for a better opportunity. Could you imagine being upset at being a stepping stone school? While I understand wanting consistency, having coaches come in and out because of success and moving on shouldnt be a negative. Imagine VCU saying such negative comments about their coaching over the years (Jeff Capel, Anthony Grant, Shaka Smart, Mike Rhoades etc). Striving for success is a good thing. To me, that type of resentment toward someone is why our men's basketball program is stuck and never able to move forward, we are only interested in career guys not ambitious ones.

not exactly the warmest statement from the ad. usually there's a "thank you" in there somewhere.

I mean the guy was at Drexel for only three months. I can understand the lukewarmness.

Oh I get it, but its still a bad look for an athletic department. Sometimes people just dont fit or like how things go, even in a short period of time. People leave jobs in the real world quicker than that if they dont like the direction things are going or they dont fit the company culture. That doesnt mean it should be viewed as a completely negative thing. You can be pissed at the situation but you still thank them for the short job they did and wish them the best moving forward.

Do you actually think it would be good for Drexel to be known as the school you can screw over that easily? This isn't the same as VCU's men's basketball coach factory (or Denise Dillon for that matter). He's not moving on after a couple years of success.

I don't fault the guy for leaving. He did what's best for him and he probably hoped all along he could get the Villanova job.

But I also don't fault the AD for showing a backbone and not pretending it's OK. Who is she going to scare off? Another coach who only plans to stick around for 3 months?

RE: 2023 Fall Sports
yeah i guess you can't fault him for going back to villanova. he was associate head coach which typically means they're next in line if the head guy goes. i wonder if this was the plan all along. could we have vetted the situation better? who knows.

i was taught it doesn't look great to leave a job that fast. you have to do what's best for you though.

if i'm the ad...i'm probably frustrated because this was a program that seemed like it might be headed in the right direction. now we're back to square one.

since i'm in a strange mood to blame zilmer for everything lately...it has to be an uphill battle to bring in quality coaches. there's no culture of winning...or at least no public perception of winning when you think drexel athletics. we're probabably more of a dead end destination than a stepping stone. she's going to have to figure out a way to change that. money would be one way and i won't pretend to know how much of that we have around.

these might be barriers to getting a new basketball coach too.

As I said I get the response, I do. I guess I just believe unless something truly negative happened, you be the bigger person and you always show respect because you dont want future doors to ever be shut or burn bridges along the way, especially from the top. With how short his stint was and how things went down, I am not totally upset by her response, I just think it better serves Drexel to be positive and encouraging. We dont want to be a school that coaches wont look at because of how we treat them (perception)
