Week 1: AAC Bottom Ten Returns! Beating Expectations
In the stock market, the name of the game is meeting expectations. Or better yet, beating expectations.
Beat expectations, your stock price goes up, investors are happy, everybody’s happy!

But whether on Wall Street or on Park Row Place, if you fall short of expectations…. you are landing on the AAC Bottom 10!

1-UNT Meanie Greenies. UNT played a solid first half going back-and-forth with ACC-bound Cal. But the second half was all forth, and no back. Cal cruised 58-21 covering the spread by a whopping (-32)

2-Navy Middie Shippies. They’ve been trying to play this game in Dublin for several years. If the score is any indication, Navy’s *still* trying to play this game. Notre Dame boat-raced the ship-men 42-3. At least Navy avoided scoring a weak “zero” in this week 0 debacle. (-18.5)

3-Memphis Tiggers. Was a 56-14 win against Bethune Cookman “good enough”? Vegas expected a 7 TD spread so unfortunately the NCAA’s Stingiest Defense ™ wasn’t stingy enough. Or rather, the Memphis offense didn’t get the memo that they had to be stingy, too, since that was the unit that allowed the two Cookin’ Man scores. (-7)

4-Temple Ow! Ls. The 24-21 win over Akron got r dunn but disappointed the point spread watchers. The Owls survived but no style points awarded. (-6.5)

5-Tulsa Bronze Hurricane was favored by 41 against Arkansas Pine Bluff but only won 42-7. I’m sure (most of) the fans are fine with the win. But analytics says, hmm red flag, didn’t cover…but don’t panic yet…
(-6)

6-UTSA Road Kill. Once again a heartbreaking close loss to the Yoo Hoo Coo Gars. The World said: Road Runners by a FG, survey said: Coo Gars by a FG. . Heal up quick Frank. Somebody needs to stop the TxSt train next week and you’re the only remaining team with a pulse left on their schedule who can do it. (-5.5)

7-USF Red Bulls. The Bulls were rolling here, then they just sort of pulled a UNT and stopped scoring. By the time the dust settled the USF “upset special” had turned into a WKU cover to the tune of 41-24. (-4.5)

8- FAU OW! Ls. The 42-20 win over Monmouth was underwhelming but welcome to the AAC where you are expected to knock it out of the park every week. Nice try, other Owls (-4.5)

9-Good Charlotte’s 24-3 win over South Carolina! Great start to your AAC era! Oh, actually it was South Carolina STATE? Meh. In that case, take SCSt and the points. (-3)

10(tie) Tulane,Rice - The Wave and The (other other) Owls did beat expectations on the field, but both saw their chances to join up with Stanford and Cal collapse when SMU snuck off to the Atlantic with the Tree. Sometimes it’s not enough to beat expectations, you gotta get lucky, too. Amirite, Memphis?

...wow, not sure how we Blazers didn't make it on this - we had a 99-yd TD drive with two minutes left to get to 35 - final was 35-6, and most folks were sorta ticked we made that last drive when the game was over - eh, we got a 'real time' two-minute drive under our belt, even tho A&T was TOTALLY checked out defensively at that point... hey, play for 60 minutes, right? 04-cheers

Memphis D pitched a shutout. Bethune got 14 points off a pick 6, and a QB fumble scoop and score.

I had y’all penciled in for sure. But the line was “only” 24.5 and UAB covered, so despite the eye test… you at least “met expectations” :haha:

Isn't UTSA 5-6 vs. Charlotte mbb all time?

03-drunk ...I figured we are DEFINITELY on the 'watch list'... BTW we are 4 point dawgs this week at GaSo... may be a good thing, as we typically do well as a 'road dog' against a relatively 'like' opponent... 02-13-banana

We didn't make the Bottom 10 second week in a row. It's early, but will they be getting that extension ready (success)?

Week 1: AAC Bottom Ten Returns! Beating Expectations
Overall for the week the conference finished 5-9 ATS.

As for the 13 teams that haven’t announced a 2024 conference move this week, that would be just 4-9.

Felt a bit like a 49er kind of week if ya think about it

Arkansas State at the top of ESPN’s list. Two MWC programs on the list, and 2 other MWC on the waiting list.

Apologies to GoodOwl. I see this already posted above.

Owl at the moon says never apologize to Good Owl!

Us Owl fans do have plenty of Bottom Ten experience though.
