I haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere.
The Big 12 Welcome Tour was at the Dayton Beer Company this evening.
It was a very well attended event based upon the attendance at past events in Dayton.
Tony Pike emcee’d the night.
AD Jon Cunningham spoke.
Head baseball coach Jordan bischel spoke.
Woman’s head basketball coach Katrina Merriweather spoke.
Coach Satterfield spoke.
Coach Wes Miller was supposed to attend and speak. He did not attend but had a recorded message that was played.
I thought it was a very nice evening.
Hats off to Dennis Hole, the organizer for the Dayton UC Alumni organization, and to Pete Hilgeman the owner of Dayton Beer Company and UC alumni.
Dan Hoard emceed there. Coaches Miller and Satterfield were both there. AD Cunningham spoke as well.
All free. Both me and my son were like "I can't believe we're here". We're used to being around buckeyes. O$U would have charged $1k a head for a function like that.
Thanks for sharing updates on Dayton and Columbus. Any estimates of the number of attendees at each?
I've long believed that UC has neglected Dayton and the Miami Valley in terms of alumni engagement, so I was excited that they chose to include it on the Welcome Tour. As Ohio's other major public research engine and the only other P5 athletic program (for 20 days now ) it's important to continue building a higher profile statewide. No better place than Dayton where lots of UC alums reside and can access our campus for sports and events in less than an hour's drive. Maybe UC should have a "Dayton Alumni" event for a game such as EKU, a special ticket price, and a pre-game social event for those folks and then recognize them on the scoreboard. I'm guessing many alumni from that area haven't been back to Clifton in years. Just as we saw with the FC Cincinnati crowds, these folks would be pleasantly surprised rediscovering all the changes on the hilltop.
There are thousands of UC folks planted in metro Columbus too. UC needs to continue to plant the flag there. Despite our perception that it's all scarlet and gray there, it's not and shouldn't keep UC from engaging our own there.

I'd say about 50-75 people at Columbus. But that was pretty much all the function was designed for.

Thanks for that update. And good planning by UC Athletics it seems as you wouldn't have wanted that group in a 300 seat event space.
Gosh i think is saw an email about the Big 12 event and was so swamped i diidnt even pay enough attention to it. UC put on a great bicentennail event in Columbus. Wish i would have went to the Big 12 event here.
