New coach cuz AD said “didn’t feel right”, so hired his buddy from Washington State.

Going to take a few years to find out if it was worth it cuz total rebuild.

I'm partial to Hibbs, but that team didn't seem like the kind you need to burn to the ground for results. I guess we'll never know...

I don’t know if Hibbs was the right guy but on paper at least not sure how you argue this guy is better.

Same thing happened last year at Grand Canyon when their HC left for the USC job to keep options open. A lot of the guys came back after they promoted one of the assistants to the head job. Good chance a bunch of Wichita State players will pull their names out of the portal.

If WSU had promoted AC Sirianni we'd have gotten more to come back then otherwise likely, and we'd have kept the higher rated recruits who are now backing out, especially if Pelfrey had also continued as pitching coach. But not to be.
Some of the portal players who didn't get much playing time and so are less viable for getting picked up by a better team are coming back, including Milan who was our starting catcher. But the rest of our stars and proven talent are gone and wont be coming back with this coaching change.
The decision by the AD to go with one of his homies instead is going to drop WSU's baseball prospects for next year in the AAC at the very least. We now have to hope that the new coach is actually better than he has ever proven himself to be for us to even get close to where we were this year in a couple of years or so, as opposed to continuing the ascent to national relevance we were finally beginning to return to.

Since fans and players have gotten to know the new coach, many have taken themselves out of the portal. Also, have been reading boosters are energized over the new coach and NIL money is increasing. Also, new coach got a good endorsement by Gene Stephenson. WSU baseball will be ok, maybe not next year, but soon. After listening to Mike Pelfrey's interview, I am convinced the AD did the right thing by not retaining Hibbs.
