This is progress from FSU’s PoV. I’m not sure how much will “close the gap”, but I was never expecting $70m, $60m would be optimistic. This will also open up expansion options for schools like USF, UConn, Navy and Pac schools that would not add to the entire average ACC payout, but could add value if they are above the average payout of the lower tier...and they would gladly take it.

See also David Teel. Hate to disappoint some of you but the conference isn’t breaking up.

The spring meeting is all about unequal revenue sharing. The possible next step is an expansion. We will see.

And THAT is the best possible outcome, IMO.

RE: Latest from David Hale on the ACC Situation
I saw the whole interview with Michael Alford and he was in a good mood, complementary of Jim Phillips and the other ADs. He was asked about the “magnificent seven” and it was the first time hearing about it, kinduva a funny moment.

It sounds like the ADs are now all in agreement, the next step is to get the Presidents to agree to it.

I guess Alford will be able to take credit at home for the magical boost in the ACC's television contract from the $240 M a year he posted to the current $400 M and some?

That represents a new low in fan base intellect if true.

RE: Latest from David Hale on the ACC Situation
Quote:Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock confirmed that he and colleagues from the six other schools McMurphy mentioned have discussed possible options.

“I would classify it as a number of conversations,” Babcock told The Times-Dispatch, “usually in small groups, on interpretations of grant of rights, of bylaws of the league, of options that may be out there.”

Babcock declined comment on whether Virginia Tech and/or the seven schools together have met with other conferences. Why the reticence?

“The tough thing about being an AD in times of conference realignment, real or perceived, is there’s nothing you can really say that’s the perfect answer,” he said.

contradicts espn’s stenographer ...
the truth is out there ...

Never underestimate how low fan base intellect can go.
