Huggs is too experienced to have an "open mic" moment. And given that Willie is an X homer, I think he picked the place and the time to drop this little bomb.

Not accidental? A caring, responsible adult would never belittle himself and others so publicly. Huggs may be an experienced and accomplished coach, at least in terms of his won/lost record, but he's proved time and again to be a weak and undisciplined human being. He was given a second chance at UC, humiliated himself, and was shown the door. He deserves no better treatment at WVU. He should be terminated for cause.

There is nothing particularly complicated about what should happen to Bob Huggins.

If his boss, West Virginia athletics director Wren Baker, went on a radio show and said the highly offensive, homophobic things Huggins said Monday, he would be fired before nightfall.

If Baker’s boss, West Virginia president Gordon Gee, had said those things, his tenure would also be over in the blink of an eye.

Heck, if a public-facing employee or executive of any American company said those things, we all know what would happen.

Why would anyone hold a basketball coach to a different standard?

It’s not like the man doesn’t have a history. He’s a public man making huge money doing publicly stupid things.

I also disagree with the idea that these are “just words.”

On a side note, my immediate supervisor recently revealed that her husband is now a she. Both military, from rural Alabama. Conservative, the trans was a big Trumper. Talk about things I never expected!

My snooping leads me to believe she thought she was getting a guy but stuck with … her. Amazing what one can find in 12 years of Facebook posts.

In hindsight, I feel her pain and better understand some odd behaviors. Sucks to be her in a world of Bob Hugginses. Words form and promote behaviors.

For the record, I had no problem with Huggins calling out X fans for throwing dildos out on the floor, and calling out X for denying it happened. 18 years or so too late, but I would have felt pretty good if he had just kept it to X’s hypocrisy and poor behavior. But then he couldn’t help

I was shocked he allowed X on his schedule.

There certainly an argument to be made about today’s sensitivities, but TBh that word was not acceptable to say on air 20-30 years ago either. I’ve been listening to radio for my 50 years on earth and don’t recall the last time it was dropped on air without consequence— maybe mid to late 1980s. It was even controversial on OTA television back then, you had to hear it on cable. BH was speaking like he was talking to guys in his foursome on a golf outing.

I'm catholic. I guess I should be outraged. Somehow I just can't make myself GAF.

How it works is if it's someone you dislike, freak out like the world is on fire and demand retribution. No quarter. If it's someone you don't dislike, roll your eyes and say they are a just a dumb***.

It's not just about a "word" but the attitude behind the word. If someone casually used the N-word twice in a radio interview, it is going to be viewed as a reflection of their attitude toward black people. F** is similar in this respect because of the history of oppression and vitriol directed toward homosexuals.

If you're a public figure, and you use those kinds of words on the radio, your employer is going to have to make a decision on how much they want to be associated with it both from a standpoint of what they want to be about, but also how they think it will affect their company/university/athletic department.

Nearly every gay man I know over the age of 40 uses the word fag. It's normally used in jest but often just to refer to someone who they know or believe to be gay who may not be open about it.

The fact that this society treats words like it's saying the name Voldemort out loud gets more ludicrous to me as time goes past.

Say what you want if you want. People can hate you for it if they wish. BFD.

Where I came from being called a wop was like calling someone a ******. Two generations of my family had their worlds turned upside down by some sister-****** rednecks in the clan burning down their barns and livestock for being papists foreigners with dark complexions.
