Really recruiting doesn’t mean anything anymore when 50% of your roster changes year to year. Freshmen especially mean very little. Birdsong would likely play very little year 1 even if he stayed and would move somewhere else in year 2. The game is all about the portal now.

I think recruiting class rankings should be done after their done playing.

I mean really, what does anyone know about any of these guys and how they will do in college???

He is working the recruiting process for the most cash, and for that I say well done. Hopefully we can get the cash to make him a Bearcat. This is major college football today, and I can't fault a player for trying to maximize his value. That is capitalism at it's core.

Still a great scrabble word if you're stuck with a Q and getting near the end of the game.

The thing is... as much we like capitalism, almost no one likes capitalists. The Morgans, Rothschilds, Fords, Gateses, Bezoses, are all reviled. Does the fact that he is a good tackler make him better than if he is a good bookkeeper?

Yep, there was a time where it was either prohibited or an unwritten rule that teams in the Big Ten and elsewhere abided by for decades. With the portal and NIL it now appears to have devolved to anarchy.

Those capitalist that like actual like capitalism usually point to ethics with some or most of the above names, but yeah this kid played the recruiting game.

I didn’t think he would stay committed and even noted this is good for our class even if he doesn’t remain committed a day or two after. Who knows if he stays with UCF, but don’t care and the way he went about it doesn’t bother me. I just don’t think think I’d play it that way if I was in his shoes but I’m not so who knows.

Verbal commitments don't mean crap. So perhaps we shouldn't start jumping up and down until guys sign on the dotted line.

This 100%. And usually can get a good feel by the ones that mean it as a true commitment based on if they are recruiting other guys to join them or not doing so, taking other visits, and just getting their social media numbers up with an initial commitment somewhere.

All true, but as baseball minds would share, "you can't get a hit if you don't get a plate appearance". Coach Satterfield and his staff are getting some impressive talent in the mix and some will land here.

Urban Meyer brought this practice to the Big10, and it was definitely looked down upon. Other Big10 coaches were pissed.

Big Ten wha wha wha so he brought SEC style recruiting to modern Big Ten. Michigan and Bucks were battling for the same Ohio recruits for a long long time before Urby ever showed up and would have to check but would think one school wouldn’t layoff after an initial commitment between those two. Again, would have to check.
