Gavin Newsom Gets the 'Welcome' He Deserves During Visit to Ron DeSantis' Florida
[Image: afb040623dAPC-800x0.jpg]

Quote:California Gov. Gavin Newsom is quickly (and calculatingly) attempting to solidify himself as a top contender for the Democratic nomination for president in the event Joe Biden bows out, and he’s gone about it primarily by sniffing around in the backyards of the red states that many of his former constituents have fled to by hundreds of thousands.

Most recently Newsom traveled to Florida, ostensibly on grounds to note his supposed concern about kids allegedly not being taught “real history” (read: woke history). But in reality, his visit was to try and tweak the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, ahead of what is being widely speculated to be an announcement next month as to whether he intends to run for the GOP presidential nomination.

Newsom posted some photos Wednesday from his trip to the Sunshine State, with a book about African women conveniently being shown in the foreground of one of them:

Newsom zeroed in on New College of Florida because of course he did:

It’s all part of his $10 million campaign to visit red states (photos galore from which are on his Twitter page) to “learn more about the right-wing assaults across the country.”

Because apparently, California has solved all of its major issues, I guess.

In any event, as you might expect, Newsom got zinged into next week by conservatives including Floridians like former and current DeSantis officials alike who all pointed out not only the gall and hypocrisy of Newsom’s swing through Florida but also to let him know that the hundreds of thousands of Californians who high-tailed it to Florida ain’t comin’ back.

“Go home. You’re not getting those U-Hauls back,” former DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw quipped while later adding that Newsom, “ventured to Florida to hunt down ex Californians who live here now and try to tax us because he realized that pushing so many productive people out of his state has contributed to a budget shortfall. Nice try.”

“The absurdity of clueless Gavin Newsom posing with library books in Florida while the open air sewer previously known as San Francisco descends further into bloody anarchy is veep level dark comedy,” DeSantis strategic comms guy Matt Wolking observed.

“Gavin Newsom, like his in-laws who moved to Florida and donated to Ron DeSantis, prefers Florida over California. Also, Gavin Newsom banned state employees from traveling to Florida,” tweeted conservative commentator RB Pundit.

Ultimately, however, the best revenge against an annoying pest like Newsom is the one that is served ice cold:

‘Nuff said.

Newsom and First Partner Jen Siebel Grandstand and Face Plant in Alabama

Quote:My colleague Sister Toldjah gave you the lowdown (emphasis on “low”) about California Governor Gavin Newsom’s visit to Florida. Hair Gel traipsed around the state, claiming to be concerned about kids allegedly not being taught “real history.” What he was really trying to do was get a rise out of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, while testing the waters for his shadow 2024 presidential run. It went as expected, with Newsom getting egged via social media and the press. Californians absconded to Florida for a reason, and it wasn’t to see His Hairfulness following on their heels.

This week, Hair Gel followed me to Alabama. His visit happened to coincide with my and my husband’s Southern road trip to the Yellowhammer State. You see, we are doing the California Adios sometime this Summer, and we’ve decided the state of Alabama is the place we want to be. Pray that we can find a U-Haul as, thanks to Newsom, you can’t get one in Cali anymore.

Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom arrived as though they were the second coming, and did the usual grandstanding. Like the opportunist he is, Newsom capitalized on the anniversary of the death of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by visiting historic monuments in Montgomery like Dexter Avenue Baptist Church and the Rosa Parks Museum. He and First Partner acted born-again Woke, as if they were giving some fresh revelation to the unwashed masses.

From Alabama.com:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom attacked Alabama’s “rollback of progress” while visiting Montgomery to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination during his tour of red states.

Newsom, whose tour includes stops in Mississippi, Arkansas and Florida, stopped by the Rosa Parks Museum and the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church during his visit to Alabama’s capital on Tuesday.

“This spot is also extraordinary because this is the site so much of the organization was done and the organizational constructs of the Montgomery Bus Boycott,” the governor said in a video posted to his Twitter account:

Newsom also met with Democrat Senators in the state. They looked underwhelmed, and probably were:

The California governor’s tour coincides with his launch of a political action committee to boost Democratic candidates in red states.

Newsom said activists today should draw inspiration from the Civil Rights Movement in combatting “the rollback of progress” in red states, including Alabama.

“And at the end of the day, that’s what’s going to be required of us to address so much of the right’s regression, so much of the rollback of the progress that we’ve all enjoyed – the national advancement of rights in the last 50 years,” he said. “We have a lot of work to do to build a movement to counter what’s happening in red states across this country.”

Of course, the sane people who live in Alabama, the Californians who have fled the state, and the ones who are planning to, are not buying this latest campaign toe-dip. The ratios on both his tweet and First Partner’s are epic.

A sampling:

We all know the only “roll back of freedoms” have happened in California, not Alabama. Ask any medical doctor decrying AB 2098, any parent who fought against the shutdown of schools for close to three years, and any CCW permit holder whose information was exposed by California AG Rob Bonta.

But those red states…

Just like FL Gov. DeSantis deflects Newsom’s attempts to elicit a response and just simply does his job of taking care of Florida’s business, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey walks the same line. What has Ivey done lately for Alabamians? She has acknowledged and is taking action on the fentanyl crisis plaguing her state. What has Newsom done? Abso-effing-lutely nothing. Homeless are still shooting up and defecating on the streets of San Francisco and the CEO of a Fortune 500 company was just stabbed to death in the same city.

Good times.

Ivey has not even bothered to respond to Newsom’s roll back rhetoric. Gov. “MeeMaw’s” got bigger brisket to smoke.

A spokeswoman for Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey could not immediately be reached for a response to Newsom’s comments.
Before Hair Gel even blew into town, Yellowhammer News reached out to Ivey’s office on March 31 for a comment about Newsom’s visit. Gov. MeeMaw’s response was classic Southern:

“Governor Newsom certainly won’t be the first to flee California for Alabama — hope he enjoys his stay!” she said.

That’s even more savage than, “Bless Your Heart.”

See you back in California, Hair Gel… but in our case, not for long. We choose those Alabama “roll backs of progress” while we Roll Tide.

RE: Gavin Newsom Gets the 'Welcome' He Deserves During Visit to Ron DeSantis' Florida
As We Predicted, Gavin Newsom's Schtick Isn't Going Over Well With Democrats in Red States

Quote:In columns over the years, and on countless media appearances in which I’m asked for my opinion about various California Democrats seeking higher office, I’ve consistently made the observation that California Democrats have a very tough time getting traction outside of the state because they’ve never been challenged on their positions or been held accountable by the media in any way. They don’t even need to give campaign speeches or long-form interviews because at this point they don’t need to. So, like Kamala Harris, once the rest of the country gets to see what they’re all about, they’re not fans.

Gavin Newsom is the latest California political superstar to suffer this fate, and he hasn’t even declared for POTUS yet. Over the last week or so he’s been traveling to red states, acting like the savior who’ll be bringing enlightenment to the rubes stuck there. Unsurprisingly, for anyone who’s ever lived outside a narcissistic bubble, that doesn’t go over well, especially in the South.

An article in Friday’s Politico lays it all out: James Carville calls Newsom’s tour a stunt; Nikki Fried says he should stay home; a leading Texas activist worries about Newsom’s condescending manner; and Newsom insiders share that Newsom is obsessed with reading “right wing” news sites.

Let’s get to it!

We must start with this description:

[L]ike a California cabernet left out on a humid afternoon, the Newsom brand may not travel all that well. Montgomery is a long way from Sacramento, and Newsom’s political machine has only been tested in friendly territory, where his party enjoys a supermajority. Many Democrats will be glad to spend his money, but it’s far less clear that they’ll want his advice or his obsessive focus on the culture-war contrasts between Democratic and Republican states.

[T]his strategy bets that the message of a California governor — who made his fortune in fine wines and has deep ties to elite San Franciscans like Nancy Pelosi — can resonate elsewhere.

Just like everyone else, Florida Democrats bristle at Newsom’s pissing match with DeSantis:

State Party Chair Nikki Fried said she’d welcome extra resources “to highlight the failures of Ron DeSantis,” but there are limits. She also said Newsom’s favorite California-versus-Florida framing, which resonates with some West Coast liberals, would backfire in DeSantis’ backyard.

“What would not be helpful is a comparison between the two states,” Fried said. “Florida is very different from California.”

And Newsom’s extremely progressive and combative style can be a problem in states where the sensitivities are a bit different. Matt Angle of the Lone Star Project, a PAC committed to defeating Republicans, says:

Democrats [in Texas] need to show the “the contrast between responsible mainstream Democrats and irresponsible, extreme Republicans,” he said — not “more ‘turn Texas blue’ pep rallies.”

“The resources are needed, and there is some smart money that gets spent in Texas from outside,” Angle said. “But Texans, even Democrats, resent people coming in and acting like they’re bringing fire to cavemen.”

Another Southerner, a legendary Democrat strategist, has doubts:

“It just strikes me as a kind of a stunt,” said James Carville, a Democratic political operative with deep experience in the South. “We’re not going to carry Oklahoma anyway, or Kentucky for that matter.”

He’s right, and especially if Newsom uses the same schtick in those states that he does in California. Democrats in North Carolina are making the same mistakes, as more and more transplants fill the urban areas with their radically progressive policies and tendencies. Having lived in the Tar Heel State for 20 years, I know that North Carolinians of any political stripe violently resent outsiders moving to the state and telling them how to run it or how they can do things better. What we’re seeing in that state currently, with the override of Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto on a bill eliminating pistol permits and Rep. Tricia Cotham (who comes from a prominent Democrat family) moving to the Republican party, are examples of what happens when Newsom’s brand of in-your-face, condescending progressivism takes hold in a Southern state.

Will Newsom or his advisers heed any of these warnings? He’s obsessed with conservative media and has an inferiority complex, and his advisers dwell in his bubble – and don’t want to get fired – so, that’s not very likely.

The governor is known to spend hours a day absorbing far-right media and often laments conservatives’ ability to dominate the narrative. “Somehow, Democrats are constantly on the defense,” he wrote in a recent campaign email. “… That has to end. We have to flip the ‘red state freedom’ narrative on its head.”

While Newsom’s advisers comprise the dominant campaign team in California, they have little experience with the politics of conservative America.

And therein lies the problem. Those of us in California are very happy to have the rest of America find out just how unbearable and, frankly, not very smart, Gavin Newsom is.

RE: Gavin Newsom Gets the 'Welcome' He Deserves During Visit to Ron DeSantis' Florida
Jealous Gavin Newsom Continues to Obsess Over Ron DeSantis, Says He Needs 'a Little Humility'

Quote:California Governor Gavin Newsom just can’t seem to stop obsessing over his imagined rival Ron DeSantis, the Florida governor who’s had a far more successful run than Newsom in almost every category imaginable. DeSantis was a national leader in getting kids back to school during COVID, while many of California’s children wasted away at home for a year and a half. Californians are voting with their feet, ditching the Golden State in droves, while Florida’s population is exploding. California is plagued by homelessness and crime, while crime is down in the Sunshine State.

But the envious Governor Hair Gel, as he is known around here, keeps making unprovoked attacks against DeSantis, including running laughable ads in Florida in June of 2022 that only seem to highlight how badly his state is performing. On Sunday, he took to the airwaves with former Biden Press Secretary Jen “Circle Back” Psaki on MSNBC.

When Psaki brought up DeSantis, Newsom jumped in: “Not a fan,” he said. Talking about DeSantis’ criticism of the weaponization of the justice system after Trump’s questionable indictment, Newsom opined:

He just looked weak, weakness masquerading as strength.

Newsom went on to predict that if DeSantis runs for president in 2024, he’ll get soundly defeated by front-runner Donald Trump in the GOP primaries:

He is going to get by rolled by Trump. Trump’s just gonna roll him—thumped. Honestly, if I were offering him political advice I would tell him to pack up and wait a few years. And actually do some of the hard work, which actually includes governing, not just identity and cultural war.

Newsom is entitled to his opinions—and his predictions—but he really enters the Twilight Zone when he attempts to tell DeSantis how to do his job better. He listed some areas where DeSantis could improve his governing, including focusing on the high cost of housing, which is rich, because California has the third-highest home prices in the nation according to one report. Florida doesn’t even crack the top 10.

Then he drops the real doozy:

Come back as a more seasoned and capable leader with a little humility. Which, by the way, he could use a little of.

Newsom is one of the most pompous, arrogant politicians in recent memory, constantly talking down to people and telling residents how wonderful he is while he drives the formerly Golden State into the ground. His talking about humility is as preposterous as if Stormy Daniels started lecturing you about modesty.

Newsom’s obsession with DeSantis borders on the bizarre; I can’t think of a similar situation where a governor constantly attacked another state executive on the other side of the country without provocation. It seems personal, too; Newsom kept repeating how DeSantis is “weak” over and over again as if questioning his manhood. I can see only two explanations for this weird behavior. One, he’s green with envy and can’t stand that DeSantis has had such success while he’s suffered indescribable failure, or two, he’s planning a presidential run and sees Ron as his strongest potential foe—whether in 2024 or 2028.

In any case, Newsom is the one who looks weak here by hyper-focusing on someone who’s busy governing—not pondering what another governor is up to every second of the day.

Newsom needs to return to his homeland of "Nuts and Flakes". Folks in the South are all too aware of carpetbagging outsiders trying to convince them to do things they would not otherwise. Tar and feather the chode and send his gelled hair on its way.
