College Football News - Early Look 2023 Rankings
Take with usual grain of salt. Although the top-tier MAC teams do feel like the frontrunners.

MAC, plus our non-con opponents

(OOC) 25. Iowa
(OOC) 36. Mississippi State
(OOC) 53. Syracuse
91. Toledo
95. Ohio
97. EMU
100. Miami
105. Buffalo
106. BGSU
107. CMU
113. WMU
117. Ball State
120. Kent State
120. NIU
123. Akron

College Football Rankings First Look: (5-7) One of the biggest under-the-radar disappointments of last year, WMU starts fresh with Lance Taylor. He has to jumpstart the O.

Sounds about right considering how little experience we return and how bad the offense was last year.

If anything 8th in the MAC feels flattering after this offseason.

Sad state of affairs in this conference when 91st is the best projected team.

Not sure how Kent State isn’t listed as last in the MAC after losing the amount of talent they lost in the offseason. Know what happens when an offense goes “fast, fast, fast” and the defense can’t stop anyone? The opponent scores points, points, points.

I'm actually surprised we're rated higher than Ball State and NIU.

My guess is this will be Hammock’s last year at NIU. His recruiting this offseason (outside of a few players) was extremely poor. They lack speed on defense and will probably struggle to pass the ball.

I’m not sure what to expect from WMU this year but I like RB Tre Hartwell, WR Logan Lester, TEs Brennan Wooten and Jack Parker, OL Luke Zanotti, DT Sid Kaba, and LB Marcus Woodley. I think those are guys that a program can be built around.

With transfer portal I don't know how anybody can make-believe predictions this early, especially in conferences like MAC.

Heck Kansas State was predicted to finish LAST in Big 12 basketball this winter and they are now in Elite Eight (for example).

With a first-year HC.

Basketball is a different animal with fewer moving parts. That being said, I get where you’re coming from. Most in the national media never played or coached (at any level) the sport they cover. It’s impossible to thoroughly know what every team has done in the offseason and make an accurate prediction. The national media pays even less attention to G5 conferences.

My guess is Ohio will be the top dog followed by Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Akron the biggest surprise team (at least to those that haven’t been paying attention). BG, NIU, and Kent State will likely be bottom dwellers.
