Hofstra stuns NIT #1 seed Rutgers
https://caasports.com/news/2023/3/14/men...f-nit.aspx

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 14, 2023) – Senior guard Tyler Thomas poured in a team-high 25 points, including a game-winning jumper with 9.2 seconds left in overtime, as Hofstra stunned top-seeded Rutgers, 88-86, in the first round of the NIT.

It was the first postseason victory since 2006 for the Pride (25-9), who will face either Cincinnati or Virginia Tech in the second round this weekend.

All five Hofstra starters tallied double figures, led by Thomas with 25 points on 11-of-18 FG shooting. DStone Dubar had a big night with 17 points, Aaron Estrada scored 13 despite fouling out with 6:51 left in regulation, Jaquan Carlos had 12 points and five assists and Nelson Boachie-Yiadom contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

Congratulations to Hofstra. Great win for the conference.

Our first NIT win since Drexel in 2012.

Hofstra looked smooth. Great game.

That's shocking that it's been 11 years. Has there been an NCAA win since 2012 either? Drexel came within one basket of making the NIT Final Four that year in a devastating loss to UMass at the DAC which I still haven't gotten over.

Hofstra got lucky at the end of regulation. But what a finish and a crazy OT by both teams. Just think Rutgers just missed the tournament. Charleston would have missed by more than Rutgers. Things to ponder. The talent between Hofstra and Rutgers was not that severe

We have had 6 NIT appearances since 2012 (ALL on the road):
2013: Alabama 62, Northeastern 43
2015: Tulsa 70, W&M 67
2016: GW 82, Hofstra 80
2017: Colorado State 81, Charleston 74
2019: NC State 84, Hofstra 78
2022: Wake Forest 74, Towson 64

Nearly all very competitive. Ridiculous we can’t get a home game.

Last NCAA win was 2013 - though that was one of the 16 seed play-in games.
VCU had the last CAA win in the full field. Think that was also 2012.

Hofstra might get to host the 2nd round game. Cincinnati has renovations planned for the court and have already said they will not be able to host that game, and Virginia Tech is hosting the NCAA women’s tournament.

Hofstra will be hosting Cincinnati in the 2nd round, either Saturday or Sunday.

RE: Hofstra stuns NIT #1 seed Rutgers
Was in attendance for this one and it was one of the most exciting games I've witnessed in a long time. Tough way for these seniors at Rutgers to go out. When they arrived on campus in 2018, Rutgers was still a joke.

Excited for Hofstra to host a soon-to-be P5 program like Cincinnati. I remember when Monmouth hosted George Washington in 2016 (eventual winners) and Ole Miss in 2017. The Ole Miss game was underwhelming because it was the played the day after a blizzard so attendance was sparse, but still both games were pretty cool experiences for the fan base.

Real shame the NIT Finals left MSG. Could you imagine if Hofstra makes a NIT run the first year they are Vegas. Would be too ironic.
