I don't think he'd make the move now, but I don't think it's a crazy idea either. He was on the hot seat coming into this season and caught lightening in bottle this year. He's gotten unexpected GREAT guard play, but Joiner graduates and Smith is gone to the NBA. I haven't paid close attention, but it seems like he stumbled into a back to the basket big in Burns. Unfortunately, for him, Burns also graduates. So, you go from the hot seat to unexpected success in a season, but the three biggest cogs in the wheel are leaving (and Duke and Carolina aren't going to be mid to bad basketball teams most years). Keatts doesn't lack for confidence and he deserves credit this year, but he wouldn't be the first guy to leave before the seat gets hotter.
Burns is only a Jr. and they have a pretty good class next year coming in. Georgetown when he took the State job was a much much better job than it is now, it's a dumpster fire now. The opposite could be said for State, with Roy and K gone the opportunity is there to make the next step. Especially after Carolina has shown that last year was a fluke and likely not the norm under Hubie.

Eligibility after Covid is stupid. Burns RS at Tenn, then played three seasons at Withrop and now has two years eligibility at State. Good for him and good for NCST, but it doesn't make any sense to me. He is in the same class as Zion, and Zion's rookie deal expires before Burns' collegiate eligibility.

Again, I don't think Keatts is going anywhere. Nor should he, but I'm not sure the portion of the fanbase that was down on him entering this season will be sold after this year. He's 12-8 in a down year for the ACC. Is that good enough? It seems like he's brought in good recruiting classes every year, but they never materialize. If you're NCST, do you want to count on Carolina and Duke being average, and then is going 2-2 against your biggest rivals when they're down and you're having your best season good enough? There is reason to be optimistic after this season, but no reason to be sold.

As it relates to UNCW, I love seeing Joel on the sideline. If Keatts can maintain success, it's good for us as long as the connection remains. If Siddle has significant success the next 2-3 years and leaves, Ponder probably would be the preferred choice, but Joel is a great second option.

No way on earth it's Ponder that I can see. Just not enough experience to take over the HC job. Justus has at least had several assistant jobs at prominent schools if we want someone with UNCW connections.

Genuinely asking, does Ponder have less experience than Siddle did before he went with Keatts to NCST?

I really didn't put a lot of thought into including his name. Just thinking of continuity, but I don't have any insight to the roles/capabilities of the current assistants.

When Keatts left we had an unrreal recruiting class and incoming transfers on deck. It was more about keeping them...along with continuity of style that made sense. Right now, i'm not too impressed with our style of play when I compare it to what Keatts had here. It was only recently that we attempted to press with any intensity or to get out on the break. So i'm not sure what it is we'd be doing related to continuity that would matter.05-mafia

1. Keatts’ last recruiting class was really solid. Agreed.

2. I don’t remember any transfers incoming…Someone can jog my mind?

3. I like Siddle’s style. He is focused on defense. Whether it be the players (Sims, Okauru) or the assistant (Hackert) who left, our offense has been bad this year.

4. We are young. Everyone except Enoh exhausts their eligibility. With the transfer portal a lot can change, but we have a solid nucleus likely returning.

Next year will be the ultimate test, year 4 (year 3 with the COVID) and a new AD.

Let's be real, the offensive plan was bad last year too, he just had Sims and Okaru to bail him out. We need a better plan on offense. When the team has pushed the pace, moved, cut, set screens , make quick passes good things happen. But somehow we go long periods or even games where those things don't happen and the result is usually terrible
