By the way, pretty exciting game between the Sea Dragons (Seattle) and the BattleHawks (St. Louis) tonight.

I lean neither, because there just isn't an appetite for spring football. All these leagues really prove is there is excess talent that should be utilized. With that said, I say XFL lasts a little longer than the USFL, because it has an agreement with the NFL for testing new rules and new referees.

XFL definitely has a much better shot, it helps when you have such a public figure like The Rock who has a passion for football (I.e. more willing to take a short term financial loss) and probably doesn’t like admitting defeat. Very low chance it survives more than a few years or gets an official partnership with the NFL, but you never know.

RE: XFL vs. USFL: Which Survives?
I think the USFL actually could win out over the XFL just because Fox Sports owns the league outright and can leverage vertical integration and cost controls that the XFL can’t. I don’t think they’ll ever blow up, but I think as long as Fox can utilize them to fill otherwise empty or non-competitive timeslots and juice ad sales, I think they’ll Keep them around. They seem to have a realistic level of expectation about what to expect from the league too, which I’ll give them credit for.
