I am sick as I was looking for a win out the season and tourney. We laid the egg for sure by giving up 84 points.

Ball State hit 49% from the floor. This Kent State team tends to win only if they hold the opponent to the low 40s or lower. Still, barring an unexpected loss at BG, they will finish with only three MAC road losses which is pretty good. That would be only two more than the Elite 8 team.

RE: Kent State @ Ball State (Super Tuesday in the MAC)
That one hurts, but its the time of the season when teams ought to start playing their best basketball. Teams with post season aspirations, anyway.
Tip the cap to Ball State who did what needed to be done and is now every bit alive to win the conference title let alone snag a top 3 seed. They still have a chance to knock off Akron an Toledo.
Credit Toledo as well, they sent a message last night. Can they keep it rolling? Saturday vs. Buffalo will be telling.
As for Kent State and Akron, Saturday just got a little bigger for both squads. Im not sure BG can match the atmosphere in Muncie, but I'd carefully pack my bag and make sure defense and focus are included. Same goes for Akron although being at home is helpful (as we found out last night around the league).
And how about the Ohio Bobcats? I am sure that they have their sights on a top 4 seed, and rightfully so. After last night Akron and Ball State need to be aware of Jeff Boals and company.
Love this time of year!
BEAT BG!.....Then go to Campus Polly's!

2 things will be our ultimate undoing. 1) no consistent scoring from our bigs. Payton seems to have wrath of officials so can't stay in game and Hornbeak has brick hands. Akeem must really be in the doghouse?
2) with Gio out we really only have one consistent outside shooter in Sully. And while dynamic he's under 6'0 so teams can make his life tough if that's their game plan.
As I mentioned above, it's only the third road MAC loss, so it's no big deal, especially since none of the losses were to any of the worst teams. It would be a big deal, though, if they fail to win at BG or fail to win the remaining home games. This is not a complete team, but neither is any other MAC team. Jacobs played 36 minutes, so if he didn't start for disciplinary reasons, it wasn't much of a punishment!

That would be a 300% increase. Oh how statistics can be manipulated.

I have worked in the area of statistics and data for 27 years, and I can tell you that if you torture the numbers long enough, they will confess to anything! :-)

RE: Kent State @ Ball State (Super Tuesday in the MAC)
Hornbeak needs to learn to play defense without fouling. 5 minutes 4 fouls last night. No other stars to speak of. Absurd. His second foul had me really mad. They throw it into Sparks he starts a post move then someone (Thomas?) doubles and he picks up his dribble and pivots away from the hoop. At this point he's stuck. Then, with his back to the basket he lifts the ball over his head and Hornbeak breaks verticality to swipe at it. They are going to call that 10 times out of 10. You've been playing college basketball for nearly 2 years now. How is he still doing dumb things like that.

spot one anti zip.
Hornbeak's inability to stay out of foul trouble is hamstringing. The quick fouls are killer as they can change the gameplan before Kent has a chance to get into a rhythm. Last night he and Payton combined for 14 minutes. Someone mentioned that Kent State is not a complete team. No argument here. But that is magnified when your two best post players combine for 8 fouls, 14 minutes and..........1 rebound.

While may not be popular, if I am Coach Sendy, I'm resting players the last bit of regular season for conference tourney play.

I was thinking that with my comment in the last blowout win, but was reminded that apparently we carry a very small roster of useful pieces and then a handful of guys that are only there to look good in sweats.

Not that the NIT is the goal, but if UT loses one more time and we run the table, the #1 seed of the conf tourney gets an auto NIT bid if they don't win NCAA bid.

Thanks for sharing perspective. Interested to hear thoughts about calling the dogs off against Zippy. Fans wouldn't like it, players wouldn't either (if had to guess), but I would have perhaps a half played. Also with full game for OU as well.
Again this is with loading up for conference tourney
Long story short, find ways to rest players last few games, I could discuss over nuisances of how and when to rest, but just sense rest could help out, for last minute push

Every coach and player on Kent State University's Basketball Team is a competitor by nature. It is my sincere hope (see what I did there) that the thought of resting players and the expense of winning ballgames would never enter their minds.
As for the NIT....freaking Colorado and that Burks fellow. Our bags were packed!

Competitors rest. Messi runs only 18 minutes of a 90 minute game

These are 19-20 yr old kids, They get 5 full days off before the tournament starts. I can guarantee nobody is resting players if the game is competitive. We need to get back the #1 seed.

Point is still valid, but college basketball teams are not mostly 19-20 year olds right now with all the 5th and 6th year guys around. Thomas for example was in the class of 2017 in HS. So he's probably 23 now.
