3 of those on the bench are red-shirting. Really no one else to put in

Last 5 guys on the bench (eligible to play) should’ve been in much earlier.

Three of the non-starters played more than 20 minutes, and one (Gillespie) played 10 minutes. Only Odusipe among the non-starters played little (4 minutes). Only two of the starters played more than 30 minutes. Carry(31) and Jacobs (33). I think all 10 players appeared in the first half.

That will be a big game with the home win streak on the line. OU has won 6 of their last 8. Ops. Never mind. They play Eastern next.

Well the problem is that they were all playing. 13 scholarships, 2 are redshirting, one is hurt. 3 walk-ons, all redshirting. We've got 10 players that could play. Kinda wonder if they've thought of looking for a football player that could come be a mop up guard. This team is built to generate garbage time but has no guards that aren't important.

Thanks AZ…why redshirt 3 walk-ons? Besides practice, this was exactly the type game where you need one or two. Prolly a good reason but I can’t think of it.

None seem like typical walk-ons. If I had to guess, I'd guess this was part of the agreement of them coming here. You didn't get the D1 offers you'd hoped for? Ok, come here for a year instead of JUCO. Practice against real D1 players every day. Get to be a part of a good team that could possibly make the tournament. And at the end of the year we'll see how it worked out and if it seems like you belong here.
Sounds good coach, but I don't want to waste a year of eligibility without a scholarship if I can't showcase my ability.

These are the guys I was referring to, they should be getting mop-up duty. Sitting with the hope of being good enough to transfer to Ashland and play but not good enough to get a few odd minutes here and there makes zero sense. To maintain such a short roster of only 10 players is not a good idea when they start getting hurt and you burn your players out come tournament time. Why even travel and wear a uniform if they won't get into a blowout with the outcome decided at halftime? Also, it's odd that in football you can play 4 of 12 games before burning a redshirt year, but in basketball you can't even play one game.

What we need are D3 talent walk-ons for mop-up duty. These kids are better than that and likely will get scholarships next year at another school if they don't stay at Kent (maybe D2 or NAIA if not D1). Mop-up is for the practice players that aren't good enough for D1 but push all the players is practice to make them better. I'd offer my services, but I couldn't push a D1 athlete to get out of bed at this point and probably could help a club blow a 15 point lead with 2 minutes left.

The only two that dress are 6'9" freshman Entenmann and 6'9" freshman Maiden. Like I said I assume Sendy has a reason for now wanting to waste a year of their eligiblity for mop up duty, ,and I trust him. Regardless, these guys wouldn't solve the issue you're talking about. They are post players. We have Odisupe and Gillespie as our bigs for garbage time, and they are deployed as such. We also have Rollins for garbage time on the wing. Up until Gio's injury he wasn't a rotation player.
The issue is that we don't have a garbage time guard. I think the only reasonable solutions to this problem would've been not redshirting Bekelja and/or Moss or having a walk-on guard or two. In the past we always had a small walk-on PG like Fleming. That's what we're missing. Go to the Rec and find one haha.

You'd think not having a big would be an issue as due to their size they are coveted, while finding a serviceable guard or two shouldn't be so difficult.

ALSO --- they are all 6-7 or taller playing the same position (4/5) as players Kent is already trying to develop (Hornbeak, Odusippe, Payton, Gillespie).
Kent has a 7-man rotation w/Sullinger, Payton off the bench and VCD made it 8 before Santiago got hurt. The key to growing the bench was getting Gilliespie and Rollins steady minutes growing to an average of 10-min per game for each. It may be late, but Rollins is showing signs and Gillespie has shown gleams. W/Odusipe as the wildcard that's plenty.
Sullinger was always the 3rd PG behind Carry/Santiago and arguably 4th if Jacobs slides to the backcourt. If Rollins keeps improving to the point Jacobs sees more true backcourt time, all the better. Not a lot of games left, but enough to still make improvements.

The two walk-ons dress and warm-up pre-game because the NCAA allows it. I would guess that those two do because in a real emergency one or both could go into the game, even though they would lose their redshirt. It's not very likely that in any give game more than five players would foul out or get injured. Yes, Senderoff could have added a couple of guys from campus who were half-way decent high school basketball players for practice purposes and to play in garbage time, but would anyone want to? There was a time when dozens or more would show up for such a try-out, but I'm not sure if any of today's kids would want to invest that time and effort just to play a couple of minutes here and there. The most likely to would be football players who played high school basketball and see it as a way to stay in shape and avoid the weight room.
