Saw this today on X/Twitter.

Is the theater still around or is it gone?

Texas Hall is still there, but I imagine the basketball/volleyball wooden floor is long gone.

I'm not sure where all the UTA FCS talk is coming from. Nobody in Arlington is advocating for FCS instead of FBS. The only FCS would be during a transitional year enroute to building up to FBS. Of course, until sanity takes place regarding IRL and Transfer Portal rules, the whole world of college athletics is in limbo.

Yes, it's fulfilling it's true, built-for, purpose of being a theater stage.

It came from me saying I'd rather have FCS than nothing. Of course, given our size, location and peers, FBS would likely be where it's at. UTA may get left out either way as the FBS door may be shutting.

RE: UTA
Yes, better FCS than nothing. Apparently, that has not been the philosophy at UTA since Spaniolo. They (or he) would always say that when the time came, UTA would only compete at the highest level. And of course, the time has never come. Perhaps that attitude in some way explains why the administration went out of its way to kill club football. I'm still a bit perplexed by that whole episode. Did Spaniolo somehow think that Club Football was a serious threat to his plans to build CPC? It has been over 12 years now and I'm wondering how that all came down. Is it time to revisit Club Football? South Alabama very effectively used their Club Football program as a means to build interest and support for their eventual NCAA FBS team. You may recall when their Club team came to Arlington to play our Club team. USA had a very nice motor coach and spiffy uniforms for the team. It was obvious that the South Alabama Club Football team had more than token support from the university. UTA could do something like that.

UTPB will play D1 football before UTA does. Three posters talking about it on this forum does not reflect the interest of Austin.

Austin doesn’t care one way or another. UTA is no threat to the golden child. This is all strictly an Arlington leadership thing. If it was wanted, it could be done tomorrow.

RE: UTA
Austin (board of regents)would only be involved if and when any major expenditures needed to be approved..such as stadium remodel/additions and maybe closing in the south end with a football/sports operations building say. it hasnt been that many years ago that not a single member of the board of regents had even ever been to the UTA campus. you right tho, not much interest in sports at UTA and certainly less in Austin.

Not directly a UTA thing, but the Dallas Wings currently use UTA's College Park Center as their home. Dallas has started talks to relocate the franchise to Dallas. If it happens, there'd be a huge downgrade in facilities. Anyone who is familiar with Dallas Memorial Auditorium knows the 1950's era gym really reflects the bad architecture of the time. It's one of the old school round buildings and while it may be larger (I don't know it's capacity), it has no bells and whistles. The player amenities and locker rooms are hugely lacking too.

EDIT: Capacity is listed here, less than 3,000 more fans.

What I saw on this was Dallas Mayor Johnson promoting this with a major upgrade to Memorial Auditorium. The Wings were being used as a reason for the upgrades.

As a side note, I would go to UTA to see Caitlin Clark play but I won’t travel to downtown Dallas.

UTA turned down the MVC because they didn't want to pay the entrance fee.

Bet they regret that decision.

I really like the WAC. I think it has a chance to become a really good basketball conference if everybody will stay. If the WAC falls apart, we will probably be homeless.

RE: UTA
Would UTA want to join the ASUN? I saw them "lumped in" with ACU and Tarleton for a move to the ASUN if things started shifting.

I can kind of understand it for the FB schools--but why would UTA go along? Options still remain the WAC, SLC, and maybe the MVC calls again since they are losing one (Missouri St.). Would not want to be the only Texas school Left is the only reason I can see or maybe afraid if things Really got bad they would have no conference home.

It's a good and legit question to UTA and was interested in their input. I included them for a couple of reasons:

1) They are a good program and don't want to exclude them.
2) They would help elevate the rankings, along with others.
3) It's because the ASUN also has other non-football schools that I thought UTA would fit.

I wonder how bad UTA admin would be kicking themselves if that ends up happening while pondering all the "what ifs?" that could have occurred if they would just add football... or would they still think they made the right call? I'm sorry y'all UTA bros have to go through all of this. We miss ya'll in the Belt.

RE: UTA
I doubt the leaders at UTA would be happy with that group of schools that are even farther from being peer schools than those in the WAC. maybe their best bet is the movalley if never going to add football. good for basketball and the metroplex is a pretty good basketball area.
