This house was built in 1886, and has very little if any insulation. It will not get above freezing in the Memphis area until wednesday.

I hate the cold.

In Chicago, it is -35 degrees with a wind chill. How do you stay warm?

As I mentioned, cold isn't a weather issue, it's a clothing and gear issue.

18 inches of snow and 45 mph winds right now and I'll be in a near sweat out in it today.

I can handle lots of weather without batting an eye but 90 degrees and humid makes me want to jump off of a bridge. It's all about personal perspective and zip code.

Us Southern folks aren’t used to this at all. It’s been interesting.

Cover those outside faucets and drip your inside faucets!

Perfect beach weather especially if you’re not much in to crowds…

I feel ya. Our 1870's home is the oldest building built as a private residence in my county (1870's up here is like the 1820's most places east of the Mississippi).

Old danged house = little to no insulation and vapor barrier. Best upgrades we could have done. None of the farmers who built these things probably ever thought they'd still be standing 150 years later.

Inside or outside, cold isn't a weather problem. It's a clothes and insulation problem, respectively.

The lack of insulation is exactly WHY they are still standing. I can't tell you the number of renovation projects I have seen turn to total knock-down/rebuilds of 1980s houses.

Those 70's and early 80's houses can be a treat. House I sold before moving up here was from 1975. Aluminum wiring. 3 bathroom vents that deposited all of the CFU's of moist air directly into the attic instead of outdoors, oven vent that didn't have an exit outside, 1x3 closet and partition walls, 3/8" decking on the entire roof...we bought the house my wife grew up in from her parents estate. They were the 1st and only owners and it was a nice neighborhood all built by the same builder. The son of that builder was an attorney at a large firm I interviewed with coming out of law school after I bought the place. We had a good laugh about it since he remembered working on it when he was 13 or 14 for his dad. I told him all of the awful things I'd yell about his dad when I had to fix everything just 3 decades after it was built.
